After a wet and rainy weekend, sometimes a girl needs a little sunshine and the promise of a convertible to keep her spirits up!

I led an office yoga class on Friday afternoon, then scooped up John and our favorite Indian dishes for a rainy night in. We celebrated the end of a productive week with a sample of the honey porter we've been brewing and a little bubbly–my favorite kind of Friday night!

We were up early on Saturday, and after dropping John off at school to practice, I grabbed a girlfriend for a trip down to Palo Alto, where we met up with a group of some of my favorite gals for brunch at Il Fornaio in Palo Alto. We spotted a tech superstar, caught up and gossiped until the brunch crowd cleared out and the lunch crowd started ordering wine! We made lemonade out of our lemony stop at the car dealership with a visit to Target to check out their collaboration with Neiman Marcus, then headed downtown where I grabbed John and dinner supplies. Dinner at 6:30 seemed only natural when it was dark before 5–we made potato tacos and munched on tomatillo salsa while sipping on Negro Modelos and left the windows open so we could hear the storm brewing! After last weekend's screening of Holiday Inn John has suddenly discovered his love of classic movies and tap dancing, so we both watched White Christmas for the first time Saturday night–amidst the kraft paper and ribbons, it was a perfectly festive evening.

John was up with the birds and practicing yoga on Sunday morning while I stayed curled up under the covers and refused to open my eyes–until he returned home with breakfast provisions, that is! I guess we hadn't had enough avocado or tomatillo salsa the night before so our first meal of the day was heavy on the tortillas and scrambled eggs. Then John took to his guitar and I to my emails, bookmarks and favorite blogs to catch up, a hot cup of tea at my side. The sky cleared and the weather was beautiful, so we ventured outside, making a trip to Flax for more ribbon and to Hollow for warm, caffeinated beverages. We took a long stroll as the afternoon drew to a close, then headed home and turned on the Christmas music as we cooked a Moroccan stew. With a busy week ahead of us, it was the restorative weekend we were both badly in need of!

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Wrapping presents, planning a holiday party, or maybe curling up with a cup of cocoa?

  2. I feel like I am officially the only person left who hasn't seen White Christmas! We did however watch The Family Guy Christmas Special where the inbred elves get devoured by reindeer? Can't believe I just wrote that. But we are really and truly moved out of Houston now! xo

  8. Sounds like a good one! I haven't been to Target yet but I can't wait to check out the Neiman Marcus collection...did you get anything? :) I threw a Christmas party for my girlfriends on Friday night, played laser tag with my sorority on Saturday night (no, I'm not a good laser tag player at all haha), and spent some time with my aunt and uncle on Sunday. It was definitely a good weekend!

  9. Sounds like you had yet another lovely weekend! Ours involved football {college of course, because
David is a fanatic!}, plans for vacations, decor decisions, putting up our Christmas tree and adorning it with ornaments and baubles we picked up from various countries we've been to {soon we will need a bigger tree}, a trip to the salon for darker tresses {love!}, and then to the cinema with my beau to see the latest Bond movie, Skyfall which was lengthy but the best one thus far! Not too shabby of a weekend :-) xo
