Isn't this photo magical? The crystal necklace, those joyful grins, and that tiny, golden airplane on her shoulder: this photo captures the spirit of the day, that intangible quality that makes you smile so many years after you've cut the cake.
When last Friday rolled around, John and I decided to celebrate the arrival of the weekend. We might be the only two people on Earth for whom "celebrate" means gorge ourselves on Indian food and watch Revenge of the Electric Car, but to each their own. Saturday moved slowly, from pjs and the paper in bed to croissants and coffee mid-morning. Late that afternoon, John headed off to play mandolin in a student-production of Don Giovanni while I devoured blogs, practiced yoga and did wedding research (almost as much fun as honeymoon research). We had a late night Italian feast after the opera and headed to bed smiling.
On Sunday morning, we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous day with a walk through Golden Gate Park to brunch; the Beach Chalet is always full, but it has one of the best views of the Pacific in the city. We strolled home hand-in-hand to build spreadsheets and do research, two of my favorite pastimes. I decided to cook a real Sunday supper, so after a trip to Andronico's for supplies, we made a roast pork rack with caramelized carrots and a root vegetable purée, enjoyed with a bottle of Bordeaux and The King's Speech; it was a perfect Sunday evening.
Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Did you enjoy a stand-out meal, make a break-through in wedding planning, or start an exciting new project?

ReplyDeleteI love that you have Indian food every Friday.
ReplyDeleteMy weekend was perfect. Fish tacos were a success, Spanish tapas were perfect, and I bought myself some fine (made in england) china. Who could ask for more?
I had a very political weekend. I mean, I only sent to one debate, but it ended up being all we talked about for hours after. I can't even look at the papers this morning because I'm so ODed on policy! Ugh.

ReplyDeleteI just love hearing about your weekends and all the food you get to eat. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHow did you like The Kings Speech? I thought it was brilliant. Not much happened over my weekend except the purchase of a new tv set. What was wrong with the old one you ask? Absolutely nothing, it just wasnt big enough according to my husband. Craziness.

I love candid shots like these. They look genuinely happy. Although, I am a bit curious about that airplane on her shoulder...
ReplyDeleteOh Lena that necklace is beautiful! I love it! This past weekend the weather was beyond perfect in San Diego. It was beautiful. We drove to Orange County for dinner with friends. The menu was braised beef baked with cheese and rigatoni and a fresh spring salad that had the most amazing flavor because of the fresh fennel used. David said the
ReplyDeletemain course was delicious...I no longer eat meat so I happily devoured the homemade French bread! Desert was a homemade bread pudding still warm from the oven. We were all happy and full!
BTW I've seen The King's Speech so many times... It is such an amazing portrayal of the king. I never knew of his speech impediment. I adore Colin Firth. Did you see him in A Single Man? Another brilliant movie.
ReplyDeleteUm, a walk in Golden Gate Park, followed by a bottle of Bordeaux and The King's Speech? Perfect day, clearly.
ReplyDeletei LOVE her jewelry!
