We're Moving!

Monday, August 10, 2015

It's been in the works for a while, but I'm finally ready to share our big news–we're moving to Michigan!

Why would an East Coaster and her Texan leave San Francisco and relocate to the Midwest, you might ask? Since graduating with my Masters a few years ago, I've wanted to study musicology. In fact, in my first job interview, I was asked what I planned to be doing five years from then; I confidently replied that I would be enrolled in a doctoral program studying musicology. This February will mark five years from that conversation, and I'm so thrilled to say that I'm exactly where I'd hoped I would be.

For some time, John and I have felt ready to leave San Francisco, but now that we're just a few weeks from our departure date, we have mixed emotions about saying goodbye to the city where we've lived since college. We'll miss the incredible California produce and our favorite local shops. We'll be sad to say farewell to San Francisco City Hall where we tied the knot five years ago, and to the community we've built in the years since. It will break our hearts to wave goodbye to the dear friends we've made here. But despite how difficult it will be to leave, I feel so lucky to be pursuing my passion, and to have a partner who supports me in that.

I don't know quite what's in store for the future of A Crimson Kiss, but I would imagine the next few weeks will be radio silent as we trek, unpack and settle in. This will always be a place where I come to find inspiration, so while you might not see a daily post, I can promise you haven't seen the last of the loveliness in this space!

So it's onto a new adventure, a new state, a new job, a new beginning!

    1. Thank you!! We're already scooping out the Indian restaurants and it's incredible how many friends of friends we've got in Ann Arbor, so between that and the following of the dreams, leaving SF has been made to feel bearable. xo

  6. Michigan sounds like a wonderful new chapter! I've always wanted to visit there, especially after an old acquaintance of mine moved to Holland to work with Herman Miller. Travel safely and I hope to see some Instagrams of your new surroundings !

  8. I am so insanely excited for you!! Michigan is an amazing place! Even though we were in Chicago (which I'm so sad we've left because a meet up could have totally happened!) we spent a lot of time in Southwest MI as our little getaway from the city. You'll have to do the wine trails (nothing compared to SF of course, but still fun) and scope out the best spots for beautiful leaves in the fall. It's just so gorgeous! Really, all four seasons are just wonderful! If you haven't already, visit PureMichigan.com, they'll mail you seasonal catalogs with all the events and happenings to get you excited :) I know all too well how bittersweet it is to leave a beloved spot, but I'm sure you're in for a grand adventure!

(I also just replied to your comment on my Fear Less post but I'm not sure if you get notified so I'll add it here, too.) I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling with the unknown but I am so thrilled to hear you're pursuing your passions! I am no stranger to the staircase tears, so to speak...Big change can be scary, even if you're excited about it! A challenging part for me were some of the questions and concerns from well meaning friends and family and the need to put on a brave face to ease their concerns, but not feeling so brave on the inside. Sometimes it feels like we have to be the strong ones, when really, we need other people's strength the most! I wish you the absolute best with everything! You've been a great blogging buddy for so long and if you ever need an ear, I'm right here! :)
