Ramos Gin Fizz

Friday, July 17, 2015

In honor of the gorgeous summer we're enjoying, I thought I'd share this classic recipe for a Ramos Gin Fizz, a light but lush cocktail perfect for long afternoons in the shade.

Ramos Gin Fizz

2 oz gin
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 oz simple syrup
2-3 drops orange blossom water
1 oz heavy cream
1 egg white
soda water

Combine gin, lemon and lime juices, syrup, orange blossom water, heavy cream and the white of one fresh egg in a shake. Shake vigorously with ice for at least one minute. Add ice and shake up 15-30 seconds. Strain into a Collins glass, top with soda water and garnish with an orange twist.

Notes: I prefer Plymouth or Hayman's Old Tom Gin in this cocktail, as something more herbaceous like Hendrick's will overwhelm the delicate flavor of the orange flower water (this cocktail's secret ingredient). Cheers!
