Gin Sour

Friday, July 10, 2015

A classic cocktail in the truest sense of the word, this three-ingredient cocktail is a winner at summer soirées.

Gin Sour

2 oz gin
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 oz simple syrup

Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice; shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a lemon peel.

Notes: Despite my fondness for gin, I've never grown much of a liking for the strong juniper flavor of dry styles. John would chose a traditional bottle of Booker's, full of juniper notes to set off the citrus, while I prefer a Plymouth or other London Dry gin, which I'd suggest is the best of both worlds. Whatever gin you chose, you can't possibly go wrong–cheers!
