Gin Fizz Tropical

Friday, March 20, 2015

I still remember the way Heaven's Dog would practically explode when a Gin Fizz Tropical landed on its long bar – suddenly everyone wanted one, and the sound of shaking cocktails would fill the room. There was a good reason the cocktail was so well-loved, and I can't imagine a more perfect drink to welcome spring's arrival.

Gin Fizz Tropical

1 1/2 oz Plymouth gin
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz orgeat
1/2 oz pineapple gum syrup
1/2 oz egg white
soda
lime slice and mint spring, for garnish

Combine gin, lime juice, orgeat, pineapple gum syrup and egg white in a shaker; shake vigorously without ice for 10-15 seconds. Add ice and shake vigorously for another 5-10 seconds. Double strain into a Collins glass, top with soda and garnish with a freshly slapped spring of mint tucked into the center of a lime slice.

Notes: Orgeat and pineapple gum syrups aren't necessarily easy ingredients to hunt down, but they are key to this cocktail. We're partial to Small Hand Foods' products, but I've heard good things about Liber & Co and it's easy to swap almond coffee syrups for orgeat. So mix yourself one fabulous cocktail this weekend, and toast to spring. Cheers!

  1. I had the most amazing cocktail made with an egg white at a speakeasy in Chicago. I'm going to have to find their menu and send it to you. I think you would enjoy it!

  2. Here it is! The Leap of Faith, under house cocktails is what I had (along with a few others haha!) Also notable was the Tell Tale.
