After a busy week, John and I were both looking forward to Friday night. He picked me up at the office and after getting cleaned up, we grabbed our usual Indian feast and toted it, along with a few of our favorite beers, to our pals' new place for an Orange Is The New Black marathon. We ate, we drank, we watched and chatted until I realized Saturday had already arrived! John and I headed home through Golden Gate Park, silent and misty so late at night, and fell dead asleep almost immediately.

We slept in on Saturday, and took our time preparing our favorite breakfast. Once the coffee was made and the potatoes roasted, we found ourselves devouring avocado toast over Piper Kerman's latest prison escapades. I spent some time with my editorial calendar and cleaning out my inbox while John practiced, but we primarily devoted the day to lazing around together. It felt great to snuggle up after a big week, and even though it felt decadent, it was restorative, too. We took an afternoon stroll for supplies from the local co-op, and after a dinner of spicy sauteéd green beans curled up with our current reads–I'm loving Lincoln Kirstein's Ballet, bias and belief. Eventually I found that I couldn't stop thinking about Nigella Lawson's bittersweet chocolate loaf cake, so we picked up some chocolate and baked a late-night confection while watching the PBS documentary, Echoes From The White House

We fell asleep long before our loaf cake had sufficiently cooled on Saturday night, but along with fresh strawberries and raspberries, it made a perfect Sunday breakfast in bed! We indulged in an early morning episode of Orange Is The New Black before tackling a deep house cleaning. Once everything was in order, I sat down to do some blogging while John practiced his favorite circuit workout, changed his strings and practiced for a few upcoming gigs and a recording session. We counter-acted the effects of our chocolatey breakfast with a big green salad for lunch, and before we knew, it our Sunday afternoon date–the most darling French bulldog–had arrived! We took a long walk through the park before curling up with Phineas for a Sunday afternoon with our books and to do lists. We made a Spanish tortilla with fresh cilantro for supper, and shared a single glass of white wine as the evening drew to a close. After another episode (or two) of Orange Is The New Black, we headed to bed feeling ready to tackle the week.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Hit up the local pool, get out of town for a bit or perhaps do a bit of gardening?

  1. Sounds like a delightful weekend. I spent mine at home doing some cleaning and then on Saturday spent a splendid evening at the symphony. Sunday was just lazy and relaxing while snuggling with my pup.

  6. I binge watched OITNB this weekend too! And I ate Spanish tapas. Pretty much the highlights of my weekend, but I'm not complaining.

  7. Ha! Chocolate loaf for breakfast? I'm a dessert-for-breakfast girl too. My favorite breakfast cookies are my family's not-too-sweet Italian Cookies.
