Peonies

After a busy few weeks, I was so looking forward to a relaxed weekend at home with my guy. We got in the spirit by making a quick trip to BevMo for boozy supplies before dinner for two at our Friday night haunt–which was absolutely packed when we arrived! After trying some new dishes and enjoying our old favorites, we strolled across the street for espresso and Chunky Monkey. We headed home as it got chilly and dove directly under the covers; I was sound asleep before we got even halfway through Red.

John was up at an unholy hour on Saturday, and I only woke up after his morning run and trip to Andronico's for breakfast supplies. We enjoyed our usual breakfast of poached eggs over avocado toast and roasted potatoes before jumping back into bed for a few TED talks (on magic, no less!). Afterwards, we settled in with our respective projects for a productive Saturday, punctuated by a late afternoon lunch break. Eventually the Home Depot's siren call was too loud to ignore, so we headed down the Peninsula before making a salad of grilled halloumi and fresh watermelon with mint and pistachios for supper. We crawled into bed before 10, and giggled through a few episodes of Surviving Jack before calling it a night.

I set an early alarm on Sunday so we wouldn't be late to our brunch reservation at Presidio Social Club. I pulled out my favorite vintage Lilly and green cable knit cashmere for the occasion, and before breakfast we took a sunny stroll through the Presidio. It seemed like we ate nearly everything on the menu–fresh fruit, grilled levain, eggs Benedict, their Easter ham and even a sweet bun with coconut-citrus glaze for dessert. Happily full, we headed home where we indulged in a mid-morning nap before tackling our to-do lists. Then we tackled a bit of house cleaning before I settled in for some yoga and John headed out for some errands. He returned with a few last ingredients for our Sunday supper of roasted chicken, potato-parsnip purée and sautéed green beans with shallots, and two glasses of rosé for good measure. We cozied up on the couch after supper with Gordon Ramsey before turning in early–we've got a big week ahead!

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend, or looking forward to as the new week begins? Did you enjoying big family celebrations, dream of summer getaways or tackle a new project?

  5. We need to have a discussion about that salad with watermelon and pistacios. I have a weird pistacio addiction. I seriously have three bags of the salted Trader Joe's ones in my pantry right now. Haha. Seriously so good.
