Guys, this was such a wonderful weekend. I flew out to the East Coast early Friday morning to celebrate with my Mama (and sat next to a woman who'd only just discovered the inconvenience of air travel); she picked me up in Boston and we headed straight to a cousin's for supper, birthday cake and plenty of family. I truly adore them (I'm not even sure how many second and third cousins I have, but they're all wonderful), and it's always such a treat when we all get together. After a slice of mocha cake from Pastiche and lots of goodbyes, we headed back to Rhode Island, where I got to check out my mom's new house (and crash on her couch).

The next morning after breakfast, we took a long walk along the marsh and the Atlantic. One of my best high school pals met us, and she and I headed into downtown Providence where I'd gotten a chic room at the Dean Hotel. We put our bags down and we're heading out to stroll around the city when I saw another dear high school friend having a coffee in the lobby! We ended up spending the whole afternoon together, chatting, walking through darling Providence neighborhoods and having Campari and sodas on her porch. After thanking her for the incredible hospitality and the wonderful day, we headed back downtown for a glass of red wine and some frites–my favorite kind of supper. We stayed up until all hours chatting and catching up, which is endlessly better in person and the sort of thing you could only do with your dearest friends.

We slept in on Sunday morning (I never quite got on East Coast time...) and grabbed some breakfast at a little bistro down the street. After eggs Benedict, we met up with my mom and strolled through the RISD Museum. There was a great exhibit on graphic design and another on the photographs of Andy Warhol, and we headed back to the hotel with just enough time to get dressed for dinner. My mom knew we had something planned, but she was so happy to see family and friends from all over come together to celebrate. We had Cook & Brown all to ourselves, which when you have a big family is a very good thing, and we ate, sipped and chatted all night long. My mama and I headed back to the hotel where she fell sound asleep almost immediately, and I got a chance to reflect on an amazing weekend full of friends, family, food and celebrating.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Enjoying the first signs of spring, checking out a new museum or chatting over a glass of wine?

  1. What a magical weekend. I still haven;t been to the RISD museum. Every since a friend of mine applied to go to RISD, I've been obsessed. I'm sure the weekend was much too short this week!
