Everyone should have a signature hot toddy recipe–they warm you up when you're sloshing through slush and soothe your cough when that winter cold won't let up. If you haven't already perfected your recipe, I invite you to enjoy ours!
Hot Toddy
1 1/2 oz whiskey
1/2 oz Bénédictine
1 teaspoon honey
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise pod
clove-studded lemon peel
Combine whiskey, Bénédictine and honey in a mug; add hot water and spices, then stir.
Notes: This hot toddy is pretty light on citrus, but you can always give this sipper a good dash of lemon juice if you like things a bit more tart. Feel free to use any kind of whiskey you like, from a single malt Scotch to a classic Kentucky bourbon, and substitute hot water for hot tea if you need a little caffeine kick. Cheers!

The anise pod is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteSomeone recommended cardamom pods–totally blew my mind. Hope you're having a stiff drink tonight!
DeleteMmm that sounds so yummy right about now!
ReplyDeleteThis may sound crazy, but I sip a hot toddy before bed when I'm ill. The lemon and honey feel healing while the alcohol gives a slight narcotic effect that helps me sleep. It just feels better than taking all that junk in Nyquil :-)
