"There is no more lovely, friendly, and charming relationship, communion, or company than a good marriage."
 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

After another long week and many late nights, John and I indulged in one of life's greatest luxuries–delivery. We ate our usual Friday night naan and dishes of curry in our pjs over an episode of The West Wing and fell asleep before the end credits played.

We were both up early on Saturday morning, and while John headed out to grab coffee with a friend, I curled up with my laptop and indulged in a little inspiration. We made a mid-morning trip to the grocery store and then cooked up a big breakfast–poached eggs over avocado toasted with roasted fingerlings, of course! After brunch, John started working on a new piece while I dug into 7x7's wedding issue and my editorial calendar. We attempted a new recipe on Saturday, and thought there was a little gravy anxiety, the shrimp and grits were delicious. After supper, we hosted an impromptu cocktail party, and took great pride in the fact that we could do so without so much as a trip to the corner store for supplies–John can do quite a bit with just three and a half lemons!

We slept in a bit after Saturday night's revelry, and agreed immediately on the first order of the day–breakfast tacos. John grabbed a few last minute ingredients while I prepped potatoes and eggs, and we enjoyed our feast with all the windows open–70º in January is even more delicious than scrambled eggs with Jack cheese. I devoted myself to domestic concerns while John practiced, and we'd take occasional breaks for a cup of tea with a section of the Sunday New York Times (we bought a paper this weekend instead of reading it online, and what a difference the smell of newsprint makes!). John was occupied with our garden and me with some pilates while the 49ers were duking it out with the Seattle Seahawks, and after cleaning up, we headed out with friends for some bbq and beer at Cellarmaker. We got into bed at a very reasonable hour, since tomorrow will be a working day for John and not a second Sunday, and after an episode or two of The West Wing, we happily drifted off to sleep.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend, and are you back to work today or enjoying one more morning in your pjs?

  5. Seventy degrees?! You don't even know how jealous I am. You've got spring weather while we're gearing up for polar vortex, part II. NO.
