Il Palio

Friday, January 17, 2014

I can imagine only a few things more delightful on a Friday night than a Manhattan–except perhaps a Manhattan made with Campari ice cubes that melt lazily into a Boulevardier as the day turns dark.

Il Palio

2 oz whiskey
1 oz sweet vermouth
Campari ice cubes
orange bitters
orange twist

Combine 3/4 of an ounce of Campari and 2 ounces of distilled water and freeze in ice cube molds. Once frozen, place cubes in a rocks glass, add whiskey, vermouth and orange bitters, and stir. Garnish with a wide orange twist.

Notes: Campari ice cubes are called for in this cocktail, but they'd also be heavenly in a Campari and soda, spritz or an Americano. Feel free to use your favorite bourbon or rye–cheers!
