It's that time of year when Harry & David's boxes full of ripe pears start arriving on doorsteps, and there's nothing I love more than a good pear cocktail as I wrap presents and hum holiday tunes!
Pear Gin Fizz
1 1/2 oz gin
1 oz St Germain elderflower liqueur
1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz dry vermouth
1/4 oz pear eau de vie
egg white
pear slice for garnish
Combine gin, St Germain, lemon juice, dry vermouth, pear eau de vie and egg white in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously without ice for 10 seconds, then add ice and shake for 5-10 more seconds. Double strain into a highball glass and garnish with a pear slice.
Notes: This cocktail provides a perfect opportunity for a fresh, floral gin–but with so many ingredients, the goal is a blend of beautiful flavors rather than a powerful note of gin. As for eaux de vie, John and I are naturally partial to St George's, but Clear Creek is also incredible. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteOooh we have a new bottle of gin in our bar stash - how perfect!
ReplyDeleteOk, this is it. Last year I tried St. Germain liqueur with champagne and was not too crazy about it. But I am going to try this over the weekend, because i am thinking the floral taste of it would go beautifully with the pears.
