After an exhausting but ultimately triumphant Friday afternoon for both John and I, we decided to celebrate in our very favorite way–with cocktails and Indian food at home! By nine, we were pj-ed and well on our way to a very long night's sleep–which was exactly what I needed!

We woke up early the next morning and got right to deep-cleaning the apartment–something it seemed we hadn't done in weeks! In the midst of scouring and scrubbing, I whipped up some simple breakfast tacos, and we planned the rest of our Saturday over French pressed coffee and English Breakfast tea. After running a few errands, we headed downtown for the final dress rehearsal of Die Fliegende Hollander at San Francisco Opera; it was thrilling to see our very dear friend sing so brilliantly! John and I headed to J.Crew for fall chinos and I even picked up a little jersey dress after the rehearsal, and as we made our way back home, the warm day suddenly turned into a foggy, cool evening so we decided a spicy penne all'arrabbiata would make a perfect supper. While John squeezed in an after-dinner practice session, I hit the grocery store to stock up on essentials and we crawled into bed with our laptops for a bit of late-night work.

The next morning, John wrapped up some program notes while I stayed curled up under the covers; while I gave them a final edit, he whipped up poached eggs over avocado toast and breakfast potatoes. John left for work after a final fork-full of spuds and I took on my to-do list: editorial planning, a mani-pedi, buying our Christmas flights, pouring over loads of inspiration and digging into a favorite Strauss opera–Der Rosenkavalier. I took a late afternoon break for a honeycrisp apple, some Cabot clothbound cheddar and a hunk of whole wheat baguette, then crossed a few more items off my list! I was finishing my yoga poses as John walked in the door, and I cooked up a spicy sweet potato stew as he prepared for Monday morning. After a glass of dry sherry, we curled into bed ready to tackle a new week.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Carving pumpkins, working on your Halloween costume or pulling out your coziest sweaters and camp socks, perhaps?

  3. Your weekend posts are my favorite. I always feel like I can escape into them. That cheese you speak of sounds amazing, as does the penne. :)

  4. I love reading your weekend posts! Our weekends are so full of 'to-do list' misses from the week that it almost seems we never get a chance to savour those sweet 48 hours! I am glad someone is doing the weekend 'right'!

  11. You've just reminded me that I haven't scrubbed the apartment in weeks. It's always one of those things where you can only really do it on a weekend, but then again, who wants to do it on a weekend?! This is the battle I face.
