Another Monday morning, another weekend recap! John picked up a Friday afternoon shift at the distillery, so after work I made my first trip across the new Bay Bridge to pick him up. We turned right around and headed home for our traditional Friday night dinner with a favorite friend; after dinner and an espresso, the three of us strolled through Golden Gate Park, stumbling on undiscovered paths and a charming carousel. My delight over the ostriches and giraffes lead to a bit of frolicking, which in turned bounced my credit card and driver's license right out of my pocket–but in a serendipitous turn of events, a return trip a few moments later meant I didn't have to spend the evening calling Bank of America and the DMV! We headed home, curled up in flannel pjs and fell asleep before the ending credits rolled on an episode of The Newsroom.

John was up in the early dawn hours of Saturday morning itching for a run; I, on the other hand, was happy to stay curled up in bed! While I dozed, John whipped up a perfect tortilla española, which we ate with slices of avocado and a green salad. We finished that Newsroom episode before getting down to work–John on his concerto and me on a to-do list full of tasks! While John headed to Alameda, I checked errands off my list–it was perfect "sweaters and sunglasses" weather, and I couldn't resist a long walk! I spent the rest of the afternoon scrolling through gorgeous weddings, expanding my vocabulary and indulging in a girly trifecta of face masks, Gossip Girl and a glass of wine. Once John was home, we sprung into action making supper–a risotto with dry farmed tomatoes and basil was the perfect foggy weather meal.

We managed to sleep in a bit on Sunday morning, and quickly headed to Hollow for empanadas and chais. We strolled to our favorite grocery store for supplies–namely strawberries, olive oil and bread–before making our way home and getting to work. After a few hours of musicology research and Schubert arrangements, we drove downtown for the dress rehearsal of Dolores Claiborne at the San Francisco Opera. We recounted every haunting moment and musical idea over a late Mediterranean lunch with our favorite tenor, then met up with more operatic friends for early evening cocktails in Noe Valley. We were at home at a reasonable hour and in bed soon after, feeling ready to take on whatever this week has in store!

Tell me, how was your weekend? Indulge in a pumpkin spice latte, make a delightful discovery in your own backyard or spend just a few more hours soaking up summer weather?

  10. Sounds like the perfect weekend! I spent Friday 13th on a ghost tour of the old quarantine station in Sydney. Nice & spooky! Saturday the hubby was at a bucks day/night so I got the house all to myself! Sunday was brunch in Newtown with beautiful friends & then my sister and her man came over for dinner. Great weekend all round!
