I'm writing this weekend round up as I recover from a whirlwind weekend in Tulsa–and what a wonderful trip it was!

John's family loves to surprise each other, and so when his Dad unexpectedly emailed us with flights on Thursday afternoon, we just couldn't say no! I hadn't spent weeks carefully crafting packing lists and itineraries, preparing my Kindle with must-reads and in the end I did forget to bring a toiletry or two, but a spontaneous trip was actually so fun–and nothing beat surprising John's younger brother and his Mama later Friday night. It wasn't easy getting to Tulsa and we spent more hours at San Francisco International Airport than I'd wish on anyone, but it was so worth it to give them a big squeeze!

After a late night, we were up early for Mike's graduation; he picked up his Masters in Biology while we all fidgeted in the stands, just waiting to cheer for him! We had lunch at a local Mexican joint, complete with Don Julio blanco and enough tortillas and guacamole to put us all down for a nap. John and I hung out at the hotel that evening, enjoying our mini vacation while Mike recruited the rest of the family to move; when they got back, we hustled to his favorite sushi restaurant for a late supper and closed the place down. We begged out of two-steppin' and curled into bed early–all that eating and napping took it right out of us!

I had managed to land us Sunday brunch reservations at The Wild Fork on Saturday night, so we all hustled to get there nearly on time. We had a big breakfast, which was perfect for John and I who'd be traveling for a better part of the day, then headed to the airport for our flight home. My own little brother was gracious enough to come collect us, and we made a simple supper to detox from a weekend of indulgent eating and drinking!

Tell me, have you ever taken a spontaneous trip? Love it or hate it?

  5. Love the picture ♥
But I am having some serious problems reading that font when it's so small x)

Sounds like a lovely weekend ♥

I can't really take spontaneous trips, I always have to plan everything so I can manage my disease to keep my health at a tolerable level. It's a bit of a pity, I think I'd love traveling..

  15. Oh my god, I am such a planner, but I think that a spontaneous trip sounds perfect. It would be kinda a relief to not think about all of the little details. It sounds divine, and I have a special place in my heart for OK. xo

  16. What? A surprise trip to Tulsa?! How fun! What a wonderful surprise for John's brother and momma too. And really, I'm not big on surprises either (I much prefer a well-crafted packing list and careful gathering of supplies) but I wouldn't turn down a weekend vacation at this point. :)
