After last week's honeyed French 75, I've found myself pulling out our Weck jar of wildflower honey more and more often. This bourbon cocktail with a hint of natural sweet and sour is the perfect libation for your palette–and his!
Honeymoon Shine
1 1/2 oz bourbon
1 1/2 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
1/2 oz honey syrup
Combine bourbon, grapefruit juice and honey syrup in a shaker with ice; shake for 5-10 seconds, then pour into a highball glass.
Notes: John recommends a short shake (just a few seconds) when using grapefruit–the juice dilutes quickly as it's not as tart as lemon or lime. To make honey syrup, combine 1/2 cup of honey with 1/2 cup water in a saucepan and dissolve; it'll be perfect in iced tea Saturday afternoon, too. Cheers!

PS–if you're looking for a tequila cocktail to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with (and who isn't?), I'd recommend: the perfect Margarita, El Diablo with cassis and ginger, strawberry-infused Tequila Fresca, Paloma with grapefruit soda, and my guilty pleasure, a Piña Colada with tequila!
