Happy Monday–can you believe we're already halfway through the month of April?

After our traditional Indian dinner date one night early, I took John to the airport as the sun rose on Friday morning. Knowing I'd be solo all weekend while John was in Philadelphia, I made a list of things I wanted to do–don't worry, I added "be more spontaneous!" After a productive week, I couldn't wait to indulge in a glass of well-chilled white wine and the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings; along with an enormous salad and a big plate of strawberries, I was in heaven.

I woke up early on Saturday morning, but without John to insist on breakfast, dove back under the covers and dozed a little while longer. Eventually I found my way into the kitchen and baked a croissant–along with a cup of tea and a bowlful of berries, I can't think of a better morning meal! After some scholarly reading and research, and catching up with John, I pulled on a shift dress and a pair of ballet flats (a rare outfit pairing in SF) and hopped in the car, headed for Palo Alto's own IKEA. Remember last weekend? Well, Saturday's trip was equally fruitless, but hopefully new stock will solve our problem–that, or a band saw. After running a few more errands, I curled up at home in a patch of sunshine with a good read before heading over to my cousin's for a BBQ. I tried my hand at Old Fashioneds (usually John's bartending!) and we had a vegan feast of black bean burgers, coleslaw, roasted corn and baked potatoes. Hours after the sun had set and we were all sufficiently numb, the other guests headed to hip local bars and outrageous parties–but I'm partial to my down pillows and crisp white duvet.

I had grand plans for Sunday morning but sleep in a bit instead–trust me, I didn't mind! After some blogging and reading, I pulled on jeans and strolled down to a local breakfast joint for a plate of chipotle eggs Benedict and an over-sized mug of tea. I headed home to throw open all the windows and dug into some of the less-glamorous–but most invigorating–tasks on my list: editing old papers, revising my editorial calendar and prepping gorgeous new weeks of weddings (with a little reality TV thrown in for good measure)! Finally I rolled out my mat and let my yoga-loving heart go crazy with a long practice session–both my mom and my grandmother have caught the bug, too! I caught up with John while simmering an arrabiata sauce and settled in for a late supper, then it was into a fresh pair of pjs and bed–perfect for a Sunday night date with a good book.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Checking early spring to-dos off your list, catching up with old friends or taking a little time for yourself?

  4. I always enjoy reading about your weekends! I went down to south georgia (with all 3 kids in tow - which was a first for us) to see my hubby's family. It was a chaos filled weekend, but we survived ;) Glad to be home!

  7. Solo weekends can be so rejuvenating, both for yourself and sometimes the relationship! We went to a birthday party for our friend turning 32, and another for a one year old. They were pretty similar fetes!

  8. That sounds like the perfect alone-time weekend! I hear ya on the down pillows and duvet, don't know what I'd do without mine.

  9. Even your weekends spent relaxing alone sound heavenly. It sounds like it was a rejuvenating, productive weekend--except for that trip to Ikea. I'm having similar issues with that store myself and am heading back there, with dread, tomorrow. Wish me luck. Can't wait to hear what you have in store for the next two days!
