I met John downtown on Friday evening with a bottle of bubbly in hand and we headed to our friend's new apartment for a get-together. AJ laid out an impressive homemade spread, there were philosophical discussions and John even pulled out the cocktail tins (he just can't help himself), but despite the wonderful company, my favorite part of the night was heading home hand in hand with my guy.

We woke up late the next morning and decided to join the rest of San Francisco having brunch alfresco. We snagged seats at Sea Breeze and enjoyed the sunshine along with breakfast–chipotle eggs benedict, whole wheat pancakes and plenty of coffee! Then we strolled home for a lazy afternoon, which I'd been looking forward to all week. Eventually we made a pilgrimage to Andronico's for picnic provisions, headed to Golden Gate Park and took advantage of the last few hours of daylight to enjoy an early supper. When John's fingers were just about frozen, we dove back under the covers for a movie and an early bedtime.

We were up early on Sunday morning and got right to the business of cooking up an enormous Spanish tortilla. After breakfast, we both got to work–me at the computer, John at the guitar. I spent the day with some gorgeous weddings, then practiced a little yoga before diving back in to plan my spring editorial calendar. Lucky for me, John kept busy with errands, practice and a dear friend's recital, but we ended the night together with a spicy dish of chana masala and the first few UP documentaries for a perfect Sunday evening in.

Tell me, were you celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a glass of green beer, or ringing in spring with a little alfresco dining?

  1. I LOVE that dress shot--so excited for what I hope is a week of toile details coming up! I spent the weekend enjoying the last of a much too short spring break. Thankfully, the weather is already in the 80s here, so I have every intention of doing homework by the pool for the rest of the semester! :)

  2. I had to work at 5:45 on St. Patrick's Day morning so I went to bed early Saturday night and felt asleep early last night. So lame.

  3. I almost forgot entirely about St. Patrick's day. Once I remembered I asked David if he wanted to go get a beer, but we are past our days of green drinking. What is a spanish tortilla? I am off to google it. What a lovely weekend, darling. xo

  4. I'm always hungry after reading about your weekend affairs. :]

If it weren't for social media I would have forgotten all about St. Patrick's!

  5. I didn't drink any green beer, but there was a lot of beer I did drink and it was not a pleasant experience actually. Day drinking makes for a miserable night, sometimes.

  6. Hmmm, is it bad luck I didn't celebrate? Sounds like you had a great time!

  7. We enjoyed our annual corned beef & cabbage dinner made & hosted by my sister & brother-in-law- a very fun St. Patrick's Day celebration! Sounds like you had a fun weekend too.

    always, koru kate

  8. Sounds absolutely divine. I remember lazy weekends - i really wish those would return. Alas, with three kids, 2.5 and under, they are merely a dream for me. Oh, to enjoy a brunch in SF sans kiddos. Le sigh. Maybe someday! Can you believe I haven't taken my hubby to California yet?? So sad. PS. Glad you enjoyed yourself!

  9. Great re-cap, Lena. Alfresco dining sounds lovely, but it was a bit too cold here. I did have a lovely brunch (indoors) on Sunday, complete with stuffed French toast. Yum! Have a great week.

    xo style, she wrote.

  10. Oh your weekends... you always make me so hungry!! It sounds like it was so lovely! The weather was gloomy here so we spent most of the weekend inside, but we did celebrate St. Patrick's with friends on Saturday. :)

  11. I hope you don't think this is weird, but when I saw this, I thought, if I were ever to travel with Lena, this is where we would stay, chattering into the wee hours about everything until we fell asleep mid-sentence like grown-ups at a slumber party. I hope to meet you IRL one day :-)

  12. Eating brunch outside...you lucky gal!! It is still way to cold here to do anything outside, I dream of warmer days! Busy, busy weekend for us, so busy that I plum forgot it was St. Patrick's Day. I never miss a chance to celebrate with my Irish pals but this weekend was full of activities, too many for my own good obviously! :)

  13. Sigh. I love that your favorite part was walking hand and hand with your man. So sweet.
