Charming Gardners

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."

Marcel Proust

After blowing through three boxes of tissues last week, John and I were finally feeling recovered (or mostly) by the end of the work week–so naturally, we packed our weekend full of fun! My dear friend who lives overseas was in town for just a few days, so we jumped on the opportunity to play host on Friday night; we introduced Audrey to our favorite Friday night meal, then booked it downtown for a performance of SF Ballet's Program 3, which included a centennial celebration of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. It was an unexpected evening of dancing that sparked some lively discussion, but I think my favorite part of the night was catching up over episodes of Say Yes to the Dress!

We cooked up a big Mexican breakfast the next morning before saying goodbye to my pal, then put ourselves to work for the next few hours–John at his guitar, me at the computer. Thank goodness it was a productive day, since by four o'clock we were sharing cocktails and chilaquiles with a friend who just returned to the Bay at Nopalito! We spent the entire afternoon, evening and even a few of the wee hours catching up, and it felt wonderful to have such a fantastic friend back in town–even if I needed a few ibuprofen the next morning!

Over empanadas at Hollow on Sunday, John and I made plans for our living room and our lives, then I dashed off to meet up with my girlfriends at Dolores Park while John headed into a practice room. Slathered in SPF 85, we dished on recent happenings and soaked up a little sunshine, then strolled through the neighborhood picking up gourmet goodies at Bi-Rite and oogling over the sweets Craftsman & Wolves. I had an hour to kill while John was rehearsing, so I grabbed a lemonade and took advantage of the wifi outside of The Grove to do some blogging; then we headed across the Bay for a trip to IKEA that was a true test of our patience! Finally we managed to squeeze one enormous armoire into the back of the car (with both the front and back passenger seats folded down) and headed home for some Thai food before a long, hot shower and an early bedtime.

Tell me, how was your weekend? Did you catch up with friends (which was obviously the theme of my weekend!), fight off a winter cold or catch a bad case of spring fever?
