I may have snuck in a post on Friday, but I couldn't be happier to officially be back to blogging–despite how much I enjoyed my cross-country trip! Holiday highlights included cocoa and Champagne cocktails with my high school besties, pizza with my should-be sisters, and a wonderful, quiet Christmas with the incredible people who raised me (parents plus, if you will!) on the East Coast, and a enormous sushi spread, a post-Christmas shopping spree (and a wonderful afternoon) with John's mama, and lots of time curled up next to my sweetheart in Texas. Organic produce and artisan coffee shops may be plentiful in San Francisco, but nothing beats family.

With John still in DFW and the incredible sticking power of my cold, I was actually relieved that Saturday was gray and rainy–I wouldn't have to feel guilty for spending the day holed up in my favorite pajamas! I poached eggs over avocado toast for breakfast and drank plenty of tea and grapefruit juice while I caught up with my favorite blogs, then finally dug into the copy of Martha Stewart Weddings that had been sitting in my mailbox unloved for weeks–that must be a record! Paired with a few episodes of Say Yes to the Dress, I think it's safe to say that I was in wedding withdrawal. As the day drew dark, I finally pulled on some pants and braved the rain for spicy Indian food that helped to clear my head! John and I had a Netflix movie date (and we highly recommend Cleanflix!) and I curled into bed feeling very much restored.

I spent Sunday morning scrambling eggs and sipping grapefruit juice, then decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather outside with a little trip downtown. Armed with Girls in White Dresses and a well-spiced chai from Trouble Coffee, I hopped on a Muni with giftcards in my pocket; I whiled away the hours strolling down Maiden Lane, picking up goodies at Williams Sonoma and hunting for the perfect pair of red ballet flats–no luck just yet. Then I headed home, eager to finally get in a little yoga practice–it still counts if you watch The West Wing while doing it, right? After pouring over some gorgeous weddings and catching up with my parents, I made a simple supper and sipped a glass of rosé–it was a wonderfully quiet way to start what's sure to be a busy week!

So now that you've got the scoop on my weekend and my holiday, indulge me–I want to hear what you've been up to these last few weeks! Your favorite gifts, the best meals or tales of holiday madness–I'm dying to know!

  5. I'm so happy you had a wonderful time despite being sick! Though I do wish Texas was a bit smaller so that your visits could mean a meet up :) I still have a week of break left and I am soaking up every bit of relaxation and family time I can. So far, break has consisted of lots of Tex Mex dinners, Chopped reruns with my sisters, baking with my mom, and reading books for fun as opposed to for school!

  14. Wow, sounds like a great time all around! Good luck in your pursuit of the perfect red ballet flats -- a tricky task, to find the ideal shade! I have a pair of orangey-red ones from Target that now have dirt stains on them from running while holding hands in a summer rainstorm (like RomCom montage style).
