Delicate

After a long week apart and a Thursday night reunion (complete with an Indian feast, of course!), I was overjoyed when Friday finally arrived. Determined to give John all the foods he missed while he was in Texas, we shared a simple bowl of pesto paired with two glasses of rosé on Friday night, and John feel asleep halfway through our movie–he's definitely still on Texas time.

Luckily, that also meant he was up early on Saturday to quietly and covertly remove the Christmas tree I refused to discard! We had a quiet, cuddly morning, then walked along the beach to brunch at the Beach Chalet, where we met a pal from Texas and her fantastic cousins. After a yummy meal and even better conversation, we walked back through Golden Gate Park and took a little adventure to Tank Hill, catching breathtaking views of our City by the Bay. We opened up all the windows and took a decadent afternoon nap when we got home, and John left me to my laptop and spreadsheets while he got a haircut. Then we combed the aisles of our favorite grocery store for everything we needed for a proper Southern meal–blackened catfish with dirty rice and a stein of hefeweizen! Trading deep South for deep pockets, we curled up with Le Cirque: A Table in Heaven and El Bulli: Cooking in Progress for some foodie eye candy before bed.

While John took a Sunday morning run and whipped up poached eggs and roasted potatoes, I stayed curled up under the covers with my Sunday morning starters–The New York Times' Ethicist and PostSecret! We broke the cardinal rule of our new white duvet–no eating in bed–and in spite of a strong cup of tea, John was sound asleep before 11. I took advantage of the quiet time to dive into my favorite weekend reads and catch up on emails, and then we both attacked our projects with vigor–John sat down with his guitar while I spread out on the kitchen table. Eventually we broke for coffee at Trouble, and after logging a few more hours which included an impromptu cocktail hour (all in the name of research!), I stretched and practiced my yoga poses in the living room. We made a saffron and butternut squash risotto, perfect for the chilly night, and shared a glass of Sauternes for dessert. It was a sumptuous Sunday evening–and the perfect antidote for my 8:45am Jury Duty summons this morning!

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Discovering a new restaurant, easing back into your routine after the holidays, or maybe even getting a start on wedding planning? I love seeing so many engagement announcements on Facebook!

We are invited to two napa weddings this year- which means I am coming your way. My dream is to drop in on an Indian feast and look at wedding magazines while sipping cocktails... xo
