Cheers!

Now that the Champagne has been drunk, the confetti thrown and the fireworks all popped, it's a new year! Although I planned to stay away until the 7th, I couldn't resist a little year in review.

I had talked John into New Year's Eve plans–a fancy dinner, maybe even a night in at a ritzy hotel–anything but being sound asleep before midnight. Then, on the 30th, I came down with an awful cold, and John (who was still finishing a course of antibiotics) came down right behind me with the flu and pneumonia. Sometimes life is like that–you make grand, gorgeous plans and end up in your pajamas, toasting with Emergen-C. If you're lucky, the people who celebrate your joy with also support you when your star doesn't seem to be shining quite so brightly. More than any personal or professional success, I think that kind of love and support is the true measure of a well-lived year.

I hope that whether your New Years was a glamorous blow out or a quiet night in, if you ushered 2013 in wearing slippers or a cocktail dress, that this past year was filled with dear friends and true love–and cheers to everything the future holds!

  3. Happy new year to you, lena! We didn't do much of anything on NYE, if that makes being sick a little bit better. Hope your new year brings you much happiness!

  9. So glad you're back, my friend! I'm sorry both you and John were sick over New Year's--I hope you're both feeling back to normal by now. That's the funny thing about New Year's, I feel. You make glamorous plans, hoping to ring in a new year in style, and the night hardly ever lives up to your expectations. But, like you said, if you're lucky, you're spending the night with the people you love by your side. Cheers to that! And cheers to 2013!

  10. Oh no! Sorry to hear you both were under the weather. We opted for a fairly quiet one this year ourselves. It is much more important to me to be with the ones I love.
