Together

My baby brother came roaring into town on Thursday evening, so for dinner that night we made sure he had a taste of our favorite bit of San Francisco–Indian food, of course! After an enormous paper dosa and some Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, we were confident we'd properly introduced Charlie to the City.

I'd spent many hours immersed in spreadsheets and QuickBooks last week, so I snuck out a little early on Friday afternoon to indulge in a head massage and a haircut at Cetana; an hour with Travis and I was four inches lighter! He asked me what I was doing that evening and I told him, "Nothing. Actively." A thick slice of French bread with avocado and a glass of rosé paired with a chick flick and an early bedtime was exactly what I needed, and I didn't feel disappointed in the least to miss out on John's beer keging experiment–or Charlie's club hopping!

I was up early on Saturday and after making a simple breakfast, I taught Charlie how to poach an egg. He headed off after breakfast to explore San Francisco's other culinary delights while I opened up Excel and got some work done. Finally I picked John up from a productive day at school and we headed to Andronico's for a bottle of bubbly and butternut squash. We made risotto for Charlie and a childhood friend who's studying at Stanford, and even though we'd made plans to see Lincoln, the three of us ended up in our pajamas watching a Duck Dynasty holiday special instead.

John curled up with a book on Sunday morning and I curled up next to him until hunger finally rousted us out of bed. We headed to Hollow for empanadas and took a long walk through Golden Gate Park where the weather was so gorgeous and sunny, it felt positively un-Christmas-y! Then it was back home so John could practice and I could blog; there really are few things I enjoy more than working quietly next to one another. I practiced yoga and ran a few errands before we made a simple supper, and as the sun set, we dragged the mattress into the living room so we could sleep in front of the twinkling Christmas tree.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Lighting candles, holiday shopping, or staying cozy by a roaring fire?

P.S. My apologies for the technical difficulties earlier–yikes!

  1. Poaching an egg - one of life's more important lessons if you ask me! Now I want Indian food and a poached egg!

  2. I love that you slept in front of your Christmas tree--that is so sweet! I drove home on Friday and have been loving every minute of my Christmas break so far :) It's even below 50 degrees today (after temperatures in the 80s yesterday!), so it actually feels like winter all of a sudden :)

  5. The recaps of your weekend always sound so lovely. Waking up on a Sunday morning next to your loved one is one of those amazing simple pleasures. I'm also pretty jealous of your rose filled Friday evening.

  6. Sunday mornings, right before breakfast, are those treasured times that never seem to last for long. Since it's one of my few times to be lazy next to my guy, I look forward to it.

  9. I basically only want to be in our living room all the time for the sole reason that it's the festive room in the house.

  11. We have an air mattress that we pull into the living room so we can lay in bed and watch TV. We typically spend most of Christmas day there and it is pretty much glorious! I'm glad you had yet another lovely weekend!
