Adapted from Post Prohibition's The Lady Detective (coconut foam is way over my kitchen's capacities), this tiki cocktail highlights one of the things I love most about rum–it's delicious in any season!
The Nancy Drew
2 oz aged rum
1 oz ginger syrup
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz coconut cream
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice; shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with a few dashes of Angostura bitters.
Notes: While I'm a big Barbancourt rum fan, there are plenty of delicious aged rums to choose from–just make sure you're not picking up something spiced! If you're interested in making your own ginger syrup, Martha Stewart has a terrifically simple recipe; if you'd rather not dirty a pot, Morris Kitchen's Ginger Syrup is delicious. And as for the coconut cream, check out the Latin or Asian cooking sections in your grocery store; coconut cream intended for cooking is creamier and more delicious than the Coco Lopez made for cocktails.
