Quiet

John was in DFW for the memorial services of a high school mentor and I was left to fend for myself, so naturally I filled my weekend with all sorts of girly indulgences I usually have to sneak in!

After a pre-dawn wake up for John's early flight and one very long week, I headed out of the office early. I made a quick trip to Whole Foods for weekend supplies, then curled up with a good book while outside, the weather was frightful. A spicy penne all'arrabiata, a glass (or two) of Lambrusco and a bubble bath were all I needed for an early bedtime, and I woke up many, many hours later feeling refreshed and restored!

Saturday morning was my favorite kind of quiet–I made a simple breakfast, sipped a cup of tea and stayed under the duvet with some lovely reading material and the first few episodes of Downton Abbey's third season. It turns out that one of our tech-savvy product managers is crazy about the show, and he generously let me download his bootlegged copies! Finally I crawled out of bed, cleaned up the kitchen and subjected myself to a long yoga practice before turning on the Vince Guaraldi Trio's A Charlie Brown Christmas and wrapping gifts. I practiced my highest high notes while a storm raged outside, then cooked up a risotto bianco and settled in with a little more Downton Abbey and the rest of the bottle of Lambrusco!

After a preliminary grocery shop for Thanksgiving necessities, I met up with my cousin Julie for brunch at Beretta; she was brave enough to suggest we order cocktails at 11am, and we had such fun catching up. I even got a peek at her new place and her housemates' adorable dogs, then headed home to check emails, and anxiously await John's return flight! After curled up and catching up on our weekend apart, John picked up his guitar and I picked up a book. Before we knew it, Indian food had arrived (you didn't really think I could go a whole weekend without it, did you?) and we were both sound asleep before 10pm.

Tell me, how was your weekend? Did you start prepping for Thanksgiving, stay in and watch football, or make a lovely discovery in your favorite neighborhood?

P.S. Once you've gotten your fill of Black Friday shopping (or skipped it altogether), come on back, would you? I've got an announcement to make, and someone's going to be a winner!

  11. Lena, I just adore you. For so many reasons but at the top of the list this weekend is A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's one of my all-time favorites. And the fact that you still managed to squeeze in an Indian meal with John. :) xo
