Crisp

This was one of those perfect fall weekends–bright and crisp, with the smell of firewood in the air; don't you love when everything comes together so beautifully, and you have the opportunity to savor it?

John met me at the office on Friday night and we raced home to try and beat our Indian takeout (we lost, but our wonderful delivery guy took home a handsome tip for waiting!); paired with a glass of rosé Cremant and Pirate Radio, it was a delicious way to wrap up the work week.

We were up early on Saturday (all of a sudden, I just can't sleep in!) and headed to Hollow for empanadas and caffeine. We curled up at a tiny table and talked about the week, the world, our Christmas list and our plans. Then we headed home, dove under the covers with our laptops and set to work–me blogging and John on some new arrangements. We skipped lunch in favor of an early evening picnic–pesto and big glasses of rosé, then opened up all the windows and snuggled under the duvet for an unlikely double feature: First Position and Bernie

On Sunday morning, John let me stay under the covers with a book while he grabbed coffee and breakfast supplies. We poached eggs, roasted potatoes and sipped tea before getting down to business; John set to learning the second movement of his new concerto, and I swept, scrubbed and scoured the apartment before running errands in anticipation of our evening plans. I managed to check everything off my to-do list before heading home for some afternoon yoga and work on this year's gift wrap theme (I'm thinking kraft paper and red velvet ribbon). Then with John as my sous chef, we made a gorgeous paella full of PEI mussels, andouille sausage, shrimp and plenty of saffron for a dinner with my dear friend Amal and her boyfriend Hassan. With a bottle (or two) of Rioja and Straus vanilla ice cream drizzled with a port syrup, it was a decadent dinner party!

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Planning your Thanksgiving menu, roasting veggies, or curling up with a good book? If you've got recommendations, I'd love to hear them!
