Sun-dappled

Earlier in the week I accidentally bought a particularly lovely bottle of rosé, and since I opened it I'd planned meals around a glass of it so it wouldn't go to waste! On Friday night I was desperate for a glass and a low-key evening, so John and I made a French-inspired repast of poached eggs, grilled sausage, roasted potatoes, and an enormous green salad. After dinner we took a stroll to the local co-op for figs and dark chocolate, then curled up in bed with a comedy.

Early the next morning I pulled out our favorite corn tortillas and we made taquitos with scrambled eggs and plenty of avocado (you can guess we go through a lot of eggs in a weekend!). John headed off to tackle some big projects he's been working on while I gave the apartment a good scrub, perused some prettiness, then grabbed my latest reads, The Underside of Joy and The Marriage Plot along with a bottle of SPF 60 for an afternoon in Golden Gate Park–it's not every day that you hit 72º in SF! After finishing one book and digging into the other, I headed home to clean up and trek downtown–it was time to celebrate a dear friend finishing the LSAT! Some of my favorite people gathered for tiki drinks at the Tonga Room, even more decadently kitschy than it looks in photos! After a round of rum drinks, John and I went to our favorite Thai place for curries galore, then spent the evening making plans and counting our blessings.

John was headed back to Home Depot and a pile of 2X4s Sunday morning, but not before we squeezed in a simple breakfast of toast and tea. I crawled back under the covers with to-do lists and tasks, along with an episode or two of Damages. Eventually I put on some pants and plaid, dropping off laundry, grabbing a well-spiced chai and indulging in a few more hours with The Marriage Plot. After a rigorous yoga practice and a hotter shower, I picked up some basil and made up a gorgeous pomodoro–which was perfect with a bottle of Dolcetto and a piece of dark chocolate for dessert.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend?

  11. New to your lovely blog.

I had a busy weekend of making fancy cupcakes (you'll see them on my blog), followed by a trip to a vintage flea market where I scored a handsome little dress/nightstand that stole my heart. I fell asleep very early the evening and slept in Sunday but spent the day painting. Later in the evening I made a big pot of white chicken chili and corn bread which was perfect for our first windy and rainy Sunday so far this autumn in Seattle. The Marriage Plot is on my list of must-reads. Are you enjoying it so far? Would love to hear a review.
