Crimson

Monday, October 8, 2012

I don't usually give a whole lot away on Monday morning about what's to come in the week ahead, but I guess I'm just too excited to stop myself! There's going to be a whole lot of crimson, which I adore, and a personal post about why I blog–along with gorgeous shoes, a really spectacular wedding and a cocktail I can't wait to sip come Friday. But first, the weekend!

Some of my favorite cousins were in town last week, and after a fabulous dinner on Thursday at Zuni Café (I have finally eaten the roast chicken, and it's as good as they say!), we met on Friday night for cocktails at Zero Zero. After a drink and some nibbles, I bid them adieu at Bourbon & Branch and headed home to recuperate from one hectic week in my favorite new pair of pajamas. I was curled up under a faux fur throw watching The West Wing when John finally got home late that night, and we headed to bed grateful that our plans for the next day didn't involve an early morning!

We had a few errands to run on Saturday, so after a big breakfast at Sea Breeze Cafe we were in the car and checking our to-do lists! Wrapping up with John's tuxedo fitting (one of his high school pals is getting married in less than two weeks, so we're headed back to Texas!), we escaped the suburbs and headed back to unusually sunny San Francisco, where John practiced before heading back into work and I soaked up some loveliness. Just as the sun set I decided to take a long walk, and while the hoards of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fans did overtake the sidewalks, there was no way they could have beat the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. John found me under the same blanket on Saturday night, this time with a glass of port and halfway through my latest read, The Poisonwood Bible.

In John's last week at the bar (horray!), he worked what's now known in our house as the Clopen Double–close, then open the restaurant and work a double that second day! We were up so early on Sunday it almost hurt, but we managed to grab breakfast and spend a little sleepy time together before I shuttled John downtown. I snuck in a Sunday morning nap, then took a leisurely look at the day–filled with trips to my favorite grocery store, list and letter writing, yoga and reading in the grass under an enormous oak tree, it was heavenly.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend?

  1. I'm so looking forward to this week, Lena! Crimson is your specialty, after all :)
My Saturday was spent screaming at the top of my lungs with over 101,800 other Longhorn fans (it was a stadium record for attendance) in a super close game against West Virginia. Sunday was spent catching up on Vanity Fair for my English class and bundling up against the surprise cold front!
