Country Club Cooler

Friday, October 5, 2012

I've never been a member of a country club, but I imagine that if I was sitting on a patio overlooking a lush golf course, this might be precisely what I'd order.

Country Club Cooler

2 oz dry vermouth
1 tsp grenadine
 soda water
citrus twist

Pour vermouth and grenadine into a tumbler or Collins glass over ice; top with soda water and stir. Garnish with a citrus twist–lemon or orange.

Notes: A cooler, as described by David Wondrich, is "a drink made of a base spirit, wine, or liqueur, built over ice, topped with carbonated soda, and sometimes fruit juice, too". This sipper would make a truly spectacular apéritif served with a dish of potato chips or nuts before dinner this weekend–cheers!
