Confetti

Monday, June 4, 2012

Happy Monday, darlings–hope you all had an absolutely wonderful weekend! I'm so excited for this new week that I'm busting out the gold confetti–I just can't wait for you see what's next!

John was working Friday night, so I came home with a chilled bottle of Cava and prepared to indulge in a pile of unwatched episodes of the Real Housewives. After a few slices of homemade pizza and a Kir Royale, John called to let me know he was headed home–just in time to curl up in our pjs with a documentary, Erasing David. After watching, it was all I could do to close my bank accounts, suspend my Facebook and rip the GPS out of my phone!

I woke up Saturday morning to a beautiful breakfast–poached eggs, chicken apple sausage, roasted rosemary potatoes, toast and fresh berries. We conquered poached eggs just this week using Smitten Kitchen's tutorial, and must have eaten them three times since Wednesday! It was a perfectly foggy and freezing June day in San Francisco, so we put on our warmest sheepskin slippers and coziest sweaters to get to work in the study. As the fog poured through Golden Gate Park, I devoured page after page of beautiful blogs, and listened as John learned some of my favorite Brazilian guitar compositions. Eventually one of us decided that after all that absorption of information, what we really needed was a nap; I guess we were both exhausted, because we woke up just in time to dress and get out the door for a Chanticleer concert at Mission Dolores, the oldest building in San Francisco. The program was a breathtakingly beautiful combination of Masses, plainsongs and solo works, and it was a delight to finally hear our good friend Ben sing! Realizing that we'd forgone any real lunch or dinner until nearly ten, we made a beeline to the closest Thai place, and ate until I thought John would have to be rolled out of the restaurant.

John tried to sneak out of the house early on Sunday morning for a solo trip to the grocery store, but I lept out of bed just in time! We had a small feast of croissants and berries for breakfast, then got down to work for a few hours. Since the weather was so irresistibly gorgeous, we threw on shoes and sunscreen and took a long stroll through Golden Gate Park. We picked up a homemade mango popsicle and a vanilla soft-serve cone dipped in dark chocolate from Twirl & Dip that was so delicious I couldn't bring myself to wait long enough to snap a photo of it, and decided to scrap our earlier dinner plans in favor of alfresco pesto with a bottle of rosé. We marveled over how different two days in San Francisco could be, and I don't know if either of us has ever been more in love with the City.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Any sweet treats, adventures, or new favorites discovered?

  16. More confetti please! I could use a kir royale right about now.

I perfected my pudding desserts in anticipation for a move to the midwest...eeek! It's called the next best thing to Robert Redford and it certainly lived up to it's name!
