One of the few purple things I've always been drawn to are lilacs; my parents have an enormous bush in the side yard that erupts with purple blooms and an impossibly sweet fragrance every spring, and I would fill my room with armloads of them, breathing in the smell of spring. Just the thought of lilacs takes me back to my mother's yellow kitchen, arranging bouquets in dusty julep cups or cut-glass vases.
What reminds you of your childhood home?

ReplyDeleteThe house I grew up in had huge lilies that grew underneath where the a/c dripped water on the side of the house. They were literally huge, because they were constantly being watered. I think you've inspired me to buy myself some flowers today. :]
ReplyDeleteA huge magnolia, that they recently cut down. I cried!
ReplyDeleteLilacs are my absolute fave!! My father planted a bush outside my window when i was little so that I could smell them every spring...Fortunately i moved into a house with at least a dozen 100 year old white lilac bushes...
ReplyDeleteHydrangeas... blue hydrangeas for sure!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous is that bouquet! I want to have lilacs growing around here now. I really do!
ReplyDeleteMy mom was just teasing me the other day when we were at the fabric store because I kept venturing back to lilac. I love it! I can't get enough of it. If I could do my wedding over, definitely a lilac bouquet.
ReplyDeleteWe had an apple tree in my front yard so apple blossoms & apples remind me of my childhood home. Sadly, the tree died & it had to be cut down a few years ago :-(
ReplyDeletein my case is food that reminds me of my house... haha! beautiful image!
ReplyDeleteI love them too! We had a tree in our backyard that bent and broke in the ice storm this winter :( Rhubarb, Rhodys and cherry tomatoes remind me of my childhood. My parents live on a big lot and we ate straight from the garden.
ReplyDeleteTheyre such a gorgeous color! We had several flower beds all around the yard in my childhood home. Always so gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteOooh lilacs are amazing. They remind me of my Oma's house. The smell instantly transports me back! :)
ReplyDeleteThey're so beautiful ♥
ReplyDeleteThere's an old apple tree at our cabin, which is just 20minutes out of town, so apple blossoms reminds me of the time spent there as a kid with my cousine ♥
The smell of lilacs always reminds me of being a kid in Virginia, where there was lilac everywhere! Seems like it's a sentimental smell for lots of people :)
ReplyDeletemy childhood home... wisteria and hydrangeas! also bright pink crepe myrtles in my grandmother's driveway!
ReplyDeleteRaspberries :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother has always grown a huge patch of raspberries... every time I eat them I'm transported home.
I haven't breathed the scent of fresh lilacs since i was a wee one. is there a more beautiful scent? well, chocolate cake perhaps.
ReplyDeleteThe smell of bonfires totally make me think of my childhood, we went camping like crazy in the summers!
ReplyDeletelilacs in a yellow kitchen sounds heavenly! My farm has a few big bushes up against a white barn and I've always thought it was one of the prettiest spots on the property!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo!! Candles always remind me of my childhood home...and the smell of cookies baking in the oven!
ReplyDeleteI WISH lilacs grew around here! Lucky lady! I grew up on the beach in South Florida, and it's so random, but salty air mixed with the smell of a boat engine brings me back to the Gulf and the marina every time! Not as romantic as lilac, but it's Florida!
ReplyDeleteHa! I guess I'm not the only one with childhood memories of lilacs! Unfortunately, my mom is allergic to them, so they were forbidden in my house, which is likely why I love them so much now.
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream truck. Is that weird? I wish I could say it was a particular flower because that sounds dreamy...but I remember the ice cream truck!
ReplyDeleteLilacs for me, too, but also peonies. There were two huge lilac bushes under my window growing up, and since we didn't have air conditioning my windows were wide open all spring and summer and the smell would waft up to my room in the evening. I would always pick boquets of peonies and lilacs for the house, and I secretly to this day love the huge black ants that always seem to be in peonies.
ReplyDeletebooks. always books. and back porches with watermelon. a wooden swingset and barefoot running. dinner together every night. a big wooden kitchen table and plants in every room. a white lace canopy over a cherry twin bed with my sister's a few feet away. happiness.
ReplyDeleteAh, that is just simply adorable ♥
ReplyDeletePurple is so lovely indeed. What a happy bouquet for spring:)
ReplyDeleteLilacs make me happy...the color makes me smile. Lilacs are one of the only flowers my husband actually recognizes {other than roses of course!}.
ReplyDeleteI {heart} Lilac. It is the most romantic bouquet.
