Flushed

Monday, April 2, 2012

I have a confession to make. I love color–red, green, blue, pink, yellow and plenty of shades in between, but the one color I've never really fallen for was purple. This week though, I've embraced a shade that's long puzzled me–and I'm smitten!

We had an impossibly fun team event at Lucky Strike, which opened recently in SOMA, sipping  White Russians and talking shop; John came to meet me and we headed out for a Friday night date. Our favorite Indian place may have closed its doors last week, but luckily they moved just two blocks up the street; two chefs (one old, one new) meant double the delicious goodies to try! We headed home with full bellies to watch W, but I ended up devouring nearly the entire second book of the Hunger Games trilogy instead (I started the first book on Tuesday evening and handed it off to the girlfriend by Thursday morning).

John headed out for espresso and provisions on Saturday morning while I polished off the last few pages of Catching Fire; he delivered breakfast in bed just as I turning the final page. After soaking up some inspiration, I buckled down with a cup of Paris tea and our W2s–it was tax time. In the last year I've conquered (and genuinely delight in) Quickbooks and Excel, so it's no wonder that I relished filling out each form and signed my 1040 with a flourish–if only we'd gotten a hefty return! John wisely headed to friend's recital Saturday afternoon to leave me in silence with our taxes, but headed home just as the downpour began. We made our favorite pasta al pomodoro and opened a bottle of red wine with supper, then curled up under the covers to watch a half dozen episodes of Law & Order SVU while the rain lashed against our windows.

I woke up mid-morning on Sunday only to discover that John had been up with the birds, and cleaning every surface in our house–the liquor cabinet was dusted, his desk was spotless, and even our dish rack was bleached brand-new. To thank him, I whipped up these amazing herb-gruyere toasts with soft-boiled eggs from Smitten Kitchen and then we settled in to get some work done–him at the guitar, me at the computer. I devoted some time to navasanas and garudasanas that afternoon, then got ready for an early supper of my favorite things–tacos, guacamole and a margarita to wash it all down at Trés. After coconut flan and a snifter of añejo tequila for dessert, we headed home eagerly looking forward to this new week.

Tell me, what were you up to this weekend? Any delicious discoveries, or fabulous events?

  2. I love your weekends. Indian food, coffee, reading... All my faves.

Emma and I had the most amazing weekend. It was the first one I kind of took off for the exception of an upload yesterday. We shopped for veggies, got pizza dough from the Italian restaurant nearby and made to huge pizzas on Saturday... Which are all gone and all stored in my thighs. Happy moments!

  6. I've never been much of a purple girl either, but I have a feeling I will be after this week on your blog!
I spent a giddy weekend with my John enjoying the Ohio spring weather, cooking up a seafood feast, laughing at a comedy club in downtown Cincinnati, and cuddling lots :) The best part is that he'll be here in just 10 days for my birthday!

  23. Waking up to your man cleaning the house?! Unheard of in my household! Can I borrow John so he can teach Bob a few things?

However, he did make me breakfast twice this week, so at least that, right? Haha.
