Dabney and Robert

My wedding fantasies are fairly tame, but sometimes a girl needs a little over-the-top inspiration–this Napa fête is the perfect mid-week day dream!

Dabney and Robert, a Southern couple, picked Napa for their nuptials, and the wildly talented Laurie Arons to plan a weekend celebration, so it's no wonder that their wedding was nothing short of stunning. The bride comes from a family of interior decorators, so she worked closely with Laurie to craft an event that combined classic Southern taste with Northern California style. It began with understated letterpress invitations from A Day in May in ivory and taupe, a perfect compliment to the wedding's color palette and Dabney's Oscar de la Renta gown, which she paired with knotted white Christian Louboutin peep toes, oversized pearl studs and a classic gold Cartier Love bracelet. Bridesmaids wore floor length grey gowns that perfectly matched the groom and his groomsmen's ties, and complimented the all-white bouquets and boutonnieres by Kathleen Deery Designs.

They were married at Beaulieu Garden in Rutherford, a reminder of the bride's late grandmother's Virginia estate, by Bishop Marc Andrus, Dabney's boarding school minster. Guests drove down a long tree-lined drive, and were welcomed with pear cocktails, served in the rose garden. After the ceremony, long tables under a trellis is bloom were the ideal setting for lush white floral arrangements and Paula LeDuc's exquisite meal, enjoyed to the strains of a string trio. The couple danced beneath a draped white tent to the Durell Coleman Band until it was time for Perfect Endings' peony-laden wedding cake. Eventually the newlyweds headed to the Wine Cave at the Calistoga Ranch in a vintage white Packard for an after-party that stretched nearly to sunrise. And there to capture each moment was the gifted Meg Smith, whose photos have me dreaming of a big band and a flute of Perrier-Jouët.

  3. Understated and elegant is the best!!! Funny I love that cake the best. I was obsessed with plain fondant cakes when I was planning. They're gorgeous and less expensive that intricately decorated cakes. And I'd need all the savings I could get for those gorgeous shoes!
