San Francisco's weather promises to be grey and rainy this week, and there are only two ways to cope–with last week's bright shades, or embracing and enjoying the gloom. It's precisely the weather John waited weeks for the morning he proposed, so you can imagine that I've got a soft spot for rainy days!

John spent this week in tech rehearsals while I worked long hours at the office, so by the time the weekend rolled around, I was ready! We grabbed cocktails and hobnobbed with friends at Heaven's Dog where John used to shake up drinks behind the bar, then headed off to see one of his high school pals who's visiting the City by the Bay. We were both sorely disappointed to realize our favorite little Indian place was closed by the time we were ready for dinner, but John managed to devour corned beef hash with scrambled eggs, potatoes, toast and a short stack of pancakes at Mel's.

After a very late night, we were in for a lazy morning; John hunted down two coconuts from Trouble Coffee to nurse his hangover, then crawled back into bed for a long nap. We watched The Switch in our pjs, then had a second breakfast at a more reasonable hour before John headed off for rehearsals and a performance of Handle's Agrippina at the Conservatory. Left to my own devices, I cleaned house, pinned pretty things to my heart's content, practiced yoga, caught up with one of my best girls and curled up with a new novel, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake

Sunday's matinee and daylight savings time meant an early morning, and after running a few errands, I came home and whipped up a croque madame and a big green salad for brunch. I spent the afternoon struggling with my computer–he must know his replacement is on its way!–but still managed to check everything off my to-do list, arguably my favorite feeling in the world. My late afternoon yoga session seemed strange in such bright sunshine, but I loved every minute of the warmth when I curled up to devour a few more chapters with a cup of tea. John's second concert of the day was finished early enough for us to order garlic naan and prawn vindaloo, because our weekends just wouldn't be complete without a little curry, and we headed to bed looking forward to the new week!

What were you up this weekend, and what are you excited about in the coming week? Big plans to announce or new projects to tackle? I want to hear all about them!

  3. I love rainy days, which is lucky for me seeing as how it's scheduled to rain through my whole spring break! It's hard to complain when you've been praying for the end of the drought all year, so I'm happy for it! Perfect opportunity to read "The Paris Wife" :) I just started it yesterday and I'm hooked!!

  9. I could have used John's hangover cure yesterday. I think I'm still recovering. I'm too old for this.

  11. Coconut water is my beverage of choice for a hangover and/or when I'm really thirsty. LOVE it.

I'm excited for some warm weather this week (finally!). Spring seems like it might be making an early entrance this year. Oh and yeah, I'm looking forward to Friday already!

  15. Oooh, let me know what you think of "the particular sadness of lemon cake." I read it last summer and liked it but also found it strange. I am emailing you this week once I know more about my SF itinerary. Save a post-work day hour for me please? I need to see your beautiful face and hug one of my dearest online friends :)

  18. What a beautiful invite!

Struggling with your computer? Apparently it's the mercury retrograde from March 12th until April 5th. I read that it's notoriously bad for computer crashes, travel delays, and senseless misunderstandings!!
