Vampire Blues

Friday, November 4, 2011

When I asked John for the recipe to a pumpkin cocktail called Ichabod's Last Ride he shook up years ago in Baltimore, he groaned at the errors of his youth and begged for time to recreate a pumpkin cocktail worthy of his name; when that was an enormous disaster, we thanked our lucky stars for the Internet, and a liquor cabinet ready for anything we could shake up!

Vampire Blues

1 1/2 oz of bourbon
1/2 oz of East India Solera Sherry
1/2 oz of fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
1 teaspoon pumpkin butter
2 dashes Angostura bitters

cinnamon stick

Combine bourbon, sherry, lemon juice, syrup, pumpkin butter and Angostura bitters in shaker with ice; shake for 10 seconds. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass, garnish with cinnamon stick.

I'm not usually a bourbon drinker, but between the sherry and the pumpkin butter, I promise you'll suddenly be singing that brown booze's praises!

P.S. I'm also sharing a favorite cranberry cocktail over at Paper Moss today–cheers!

  23. I love anything pumpkin - and I had a shot once that was just like pumpkin pie. I've never been able to figure out what it was, but this looks like it would have the same effect. This holiday season though I've been living off of mulled wine and mulled mead.
