Rachel and John

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

I feel like most girls have a preference: pearls or diamonds. It might be the best practical expression of the Jackie-Marilyn duality, and I've always been the girl who goes for a pearl choker and matching studs. I'm pretty sure Rachel, today's bride, is in agreement and I couldn't like her more for it.

These Southern traditionalists were married in their home state of North Carolina; a ceremony at Kenan Chapel was followed by a reception at the Surf Club full of family touches. Invitations by William Arthur, designed by MMInk and with Calligraphy by Hilary arrived in shades of grey and ivory that echoed the beauty of the couple's seaside location, and their classic color palette.

The bride wore a stunning gown from Christos paired with J.Crew peep toe mary janes in patent leather and suede, not to mention plenty of pearls, while her maids wore blush dresses from Amsale. The groom also chose J.Crew when it came to his suit, and the gentlemen wore matching Brooks Brothers ties striped with navy and pink.

The couple worked with Fiore Fine Flowers to create traditional wreaths framed with magnolia leaves for the ceremony site, and their palate of ivory, white and grey with touches of blushes was magnificently mirrored in the lush bouquets and arrangements. Blue cheese biscuits and a magnolia topped cake by Nicki's Cakes designed to look like a buttercream confection the couple's grandmothers would have served paid homage to their Southern roots, while grey and white paper straws matched the antique silver vases and frames that held table numbers. Rachel and John also added frames with photos of both sets of parents on their wedding day at each table, making this truly a family affair.

And of course, we would never have enjoyed the loveliness of this beautiful couple's wedding day without the work of Meredith Perdue, the talented woman behind the lens who so generously let me share these images with all of you!
