Peachy Keen

Monday, October 17, 2011

My weekends are, like I'm sure yours are, fairly precious. I like to think that I work my tush off all week to truly earn two lazy days of perfect quiet, and this week was no exception on either score.

We made our usual trip to Mountain View where I sunned myself with apple cider in one hand and book in the other (And a Bottle of Rum: The History of the New World in Ten Cocktails). We made a trip to San Francisco Brewcraft to pick up yeast for a batch of spiced apple cider we'll be serving at Thanksgiving, recipe forthcoming. We devoured tacos and the Tulsa-UAB game at our favorite sports bar/Mexican joint on Saturday night, and on Sunday morning, I woke up to a perfectly gray day and another gorgeous breakfast cooked by John.

We scrubbed each corner and shelf clean between curling up with the West Wing season 2 and every hot beverage imaginable–it was the perfect imitation of a real fall weekend, since the only thing that's changed these days in San Francisco is the time the sun sets. And after an early Indian feast, John was sound asleep before 10–he was snoring too sweetly to wake up!

Tell me darlings–what were you up to this weekend?

  1. Oh Lena, that sounds like perfection. You went and bought yeast for your cider? Wow, lady. Over-achieve much? Our weekend was ok...nothing to write home about. My goal for next weekend is to make mine as fabulous as yours. xo

  7. ooo, thanks for giving me an idea of a Christmas gift for my husband - he'd love that book (And a Bottle of Rum). Your weekend sounded amazing, as always:) We sat around a campfire all through the night Saturday (turning in at 4:30 AM!) and as a result, were lazy bums on Sunday. It was perfect.

  10. I seriously always pretend I'm with you watching West Wing and all cozy with a hot beverage. Ha. And I am so excited for that apple cider recipe. Matt makes beer and tried cider once but it turned out funky. Interested to see what you guys do.

  14. Oh that sounds fabulous. I bought cider at the grocery store, not nearly as fabulous... plus hubster shared his cold and I was too weak to fight his tv viewing of choice, old Russian movies and the Ukrainian Bachelor. Could've worked with subtitles, oh but there were none. Not one of my fave weekends...

Totally enjoying visiting home on the island in the Pacific Northwest right now. It's sunny and warm, yet crisp, and the leaves are starting to turn that gorgeous golden tone....

  29. Yes, what a lovely weekend. I love this time of year for everything: being outside, eating the last of the year's harvest, being not-too-hot and not-too-cold. It's indeed lovely.

  30. 10:00 is supposed to be my bedtime this week. I'm already 16 minutes past that now, so oops! (I couldn't resist a quick visit to my faves, though :)

Teehee! I also love the phrase "peachy keen"!!

My weekends have been consisting of constant rehearsals as I am silly enough to have taken on 2 shows at once - eek!
