Marshmallows

San Francisco summers provide a shock for out of town guests; while heat waves stifle the rest of the country and even towns just miles from our City by the Bay, San Francisco hovers around 65 degrees-precisely the same temperature it was in February and November! So when our dear friends and soon-to-be-neighbors came from Houston for a visit this weekend, they were shocked by the chill in the air and the cocoa on the stove!

One surefire was to ensure a smile rather than a grimace over the cool temperatures? Serve hot chocolate with delicious artisan marshmallows-toasted coconut with a lightly spiced Mexican cocoa was truly out of this world!

Are you all mortified that I'm serving cocoa in July? Wishing I would stop bragging about the chilly temps and year-round down comforter usage?

Tell me, heatwave warriors–what's your favorite summertime drink?

  1. I'm not mortified at all. I would love nothing more than a hot cup of cocoa with those delicious looking marshmallows! Could be because in Australia it's actually winter hahaha!

  2. Oh YUM! I love that you embrace your cold summers - I'm very grumpy indeed about ours. I bet those marshmallows would make me feel better!

  3. So, very jealous. I was just complaining about the heat yesterday. It was 97 at 9pm last nite. Ugh!! I'm addicted to anything made with Grey Goose's pear vodka lately. It's so refreshing.. but I also can't get enough iced (unsweet) ginger peach tea.

  5. Gosh, you're so lucky! It's SO hot down here in Georgia. I miss SF! I keep forgetting that you're from SF! I used to live in the bay area. That's where I grew up. Miss that bay area breeze!

  10. I am not mortified, but rather, jealous of the Texans who got to escape the heat and enjoy it! DH turned to me the other day and asked how hot it got in SF. He barely believed me when I told him!

  14. I love cocoa at anytime of the year...and flavored marshmallows? Yummy! However I must say at lunch the other day I ordered ginger tea. They blend two different types of ginger together to make the tea sweet. It was so hot that I asked for a cup of rice and EUREKA...I had iced ginger tea...so refreshing! xoxo

  25. Ice-cold lemonade! Especially on days when it's too hot to bear. But I also have no qualms about drinking hot chocolate during the hot summer days either. That stuff is too good!
