Amended for my darling Southern readers who hate sweet tea:
While John's family likes their tea well-sugared and I think at least one aunt may live on the stuff (Hi, Aunt Jenny!), I prefer mine with more of a bite, and always use just a bit of honey or agave syrup instead. I've made a dent in the pitcher of iced tea in our fridge, but I'm sure the moment John gets home tomorrow that it'll all be gone!
For those of you looking for your Friday cocktail, fear not! Add 1 1/2 oz of vodka and you're enjoying an Ice Pick, or throw in lemonade too and you'll be sipping on a John Daly cocktail, the alcoholic version of the classic Arnold Palmer!
Tell me, what are your plans for this weekend? Cheers, ya'll!

ReplyDeleteConfession time: I'm a bona fide southerner, but I don't like iced tea (sweet or unsweet -- my mama, a Tennessee gal, only drinks unsweet). That photo makes it look pretty darn refreshing, though! This weekend is our anniversary so Jon's whisking me away for a day or so somewhere yet to be announced, and we'll be eating year-old cake and re-creating a dish from our honeymoon on the actual day (Sunday). Have a great one!
ReplyDeleteI can't do sweet tea, I like my tea straight up with no sugar and no lemon. However adding a little alcohol never hurt anyone ;-)
ReplyDeleteOur plans for the weekend involve spring cleaning and crafting... which means we should probably try one of these recipes while we're at it!!
ReplyDeleteyummmm arnold palmer!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Postcards & Pretties...Yum! Arnold Palmer..especially with Pink Lemonade!
ReplyDeleteI love sweet tea, besides it is so hot in here and looking at that makes me want to put my hand through the screen and grab that drink. ahhhh.
ReplyDeleteI love mint teas! Summer, winter...it matters not! but your drinks always seem to be such a better idea then whatever Im currently downing
ReplyDeletejust for the record not all of us Texans like simple syrup in our tea! lol It's funny how you have to specify that you want your tea unsweet here.
ReplyDeleteisaiah. and. i. hate the sweet tea PHENOMENON in Texas. HATE IT. i hate having to ask for unsweet tea. i hate having to explain, "Yes...I know you have "THE BEST SWEET TEA in the whole world," but I would like it unsweet, please.
ReplyDeleteREALLY.
anyways, ADORABLE photo, sorry for the angry yikesness. i hate sweet tea, but i adore you.
Friday cocktail indeed! :) Agave syrup is a great idea! :)

You know they have the sweet tea vodka now lol. That would definitely make a southern cocktail!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I tried John's mama's sweet tea, I could hardly believe it-it was brown sugar water! She's since cut down on the sugar a lot, but I still need TEA in my iced tea, too!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this looks positively delicious! I now have a hankering for sweet tea! Have a wonderful weekend, Lena!
ReplyDeleteI would love to Arnold Palmer right about now!
ReplyDeleteI haven't totally acquired a taste for sweet tea. I tend to like mine unsweetened. But an Arnold Palmer is always delish! Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteLooove sweet tea. I also enjoy unsweetened ice tea with lemon as well, but they are different things and I treat them as such. :)
ReplyDeletewhen I lived in texas people drank it for breakfast! I love it really sweet! xo
ReplyDeletei love iced tea, and it's only made better with a little booze sneaked in :-)
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what it is about tea but I just dont enjoy it which is weird because everyone in my family Loves it. Oh well. Have a fantastic weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the little wooden stir stick. And of course of the mason jar. Are you drinking yours from a jar?
ReplyDeleteI'm heading to a concert, and hopefully a hike with the pups.
I was just about to head out to the store to get a few ingredients for tonight's dinner and couldn't leave without a delicious cocktail recipe by you. And as I am getting very excited to head South, back to my roots, this couldn't be more perfect! Thanks Lena! Wishing you a beautiful weekend! xoxo Samantha
ReplyDeleteI'm Cape Cod gal, so sweet tea is in my blood. We almost exclusively live on iced tea with lemonade all summer long, save for the evenings when it's a nice cold draft ;)
ReplyDeleteYum - I need to make this this weekend. Both virgin and alcoholic versions :)
ReplyDeleteI've never had sweet tea but it sounds amazing! I'm a major fan of honey or agave as a sweetner so I'll have to give that a try :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious and so perfect in a mason jar!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend is a HUGE iced tea drinker, but he too can't quite stomach the super sweet tea of the south. I'm always down to add a little alcohol though. haha.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Yayy you just taught me how to make a new cocktail!!
ReplyDeleteI will be attending to two graduations and a BBQ if mother nature decides to stop the rain that is :)
