Imperfect buttercream pearls and fragrant gardenias are the perfect accessories for a classic confection like this one. While a magazine-cover cake is covet-able, there's something absolutely charming about the flaws.

  4. I totally agree. My first thought when I saw this picture was, "Oh, I want to eat that!" So many other wedding cakes are works of art, but don't make you want to grab a fork and dig in. You know?

  7. Agreed. I'm almost always more attracted to imperfect. It carries more stories within!

  8. It's perfect! We have clients tying the knot at a magical venue {The Ruins in Seattle} who are going all-out with eclectic and royal details. But their cake is a great treat; a run-your-fingers-through-the-frosting buttercream cake. I think it's my favorite element of their wedding!

  9. i definitely don't mind the imperfections. just as long as it tastes good, we're in business! and it still looks pretty, anyway.

  10. so true! we had little wooden cows for cake toppers, and one of them slid off the cake mid-reception! we just turned the cake around so no one could see the frosting smudges :-) still delicious!

  12. I agree! It looks like a well worn building and I like that.

  13. The imperfections definitely add to that charm of the cake and in my opinion butter cream is so much more tasty than the flawless fondant

  15. I must say there is something eye-catching about perfectly laid fondant. BUT, I'm a buttercream girl alllll the way.
