El Diablo

Friday, April 22, 2011

This drink's sinful name belies its devilishly delicious nature; tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and a touch of ginger beer come together to create a perfect tequila cocktail that's nothing short of divine! This cocktail made its first appearance in Trader Vic's Book of Food and Drink as early as 1946, and has been enjoyed by cocktail aficionados since!

El Diablo

1 1/2 oz of tequila
1/2 oz of crème de cassis
1/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
ginger beer

Combine tequila, crème de cassis and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice; shake for 5-10 seconds. Strain into a glass over ice; fill with ginger beer.

Notes: Ginger ale in the 1940s was a soft drink with real bite; while there's nothing wrong with Schweppes, a spicier ginger beer will give this cocktail a delicious kick.

Whatever tequila you have on hand will be more than appropriate for this cocktail. If you need to add a bottle of tequila to your liquor cabinet, a Reposado tequila (aged for more than 2 months, but less than one year) is a terrific addition!

  21. Tequila and I don't mix! Seriously, if you wanna see a girl (me) dance on a table (hey, I was in Mexico) just give me some tequila ;-)))) However, it is my sister's absolute favorite!! Go figure ;-) Yet, I just might have to give it a try again...at home of course just to see how I react to it...and of course I will make sure the table is cleared off first ;-))) Hope you had a lovely Easter weekend! Can't wait to meet you on Tuesday!

    xoxo
