Like so many other wedding bloggers, I'm a total sucker for paper. Printed, embossed, letterpressed—I love it all—but like
Sparkle & Hay's Erin, calligraphy might be my biggest weakness! She did a
fabulous round up of stamps that bring calligraphy to your invitations without breaking the bank, and I had to add
Emilie Friday's
gorgeous work to my list of calligraphers to drool over! Her
cake toppers are so divine, too-there's nothing this talented girl
can't do!
What do you think—is calligraphy worth all the hoopla and extra money, or are you better off using your best handwriting to address your wedding invitations? My guess—it depends what you think of your penmanship!
paper oh me. stamps oh my. together. oh yes.

So I'd totally rationalize this by thinking that I'd use the stamps forever and ever, and save so much (a) pen ink and (b) time in the process. Even my gas and electric bills would have beautiful, calligraphy return addresses on them!
ReplyDeleteI love calligraphy. It's such a lost art. Thankfully, my Mom is the Queen of it, and when I have my big day she'll be doing my invites (or at least the envelopes).
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for typography and stamps. I love this!
ReplyDeleteso beautiful! i love the idea of a stamp because i'm pretty sure learning calligraphy for me...is impossible. positive, actually.

This is just perfect and I spied this on Sparkle + Hay, too. I will be ordering one! {A}
ReplyDeleteI personally saved money in this department, but it sure does make a lovely touch!
ReplyDeleteI think calligraphy makes the people getting the invite feel special so if it's in the budget I think it's always worth it!

i LOVE the idea of getting a custom stamp made... but if your penmanship is good enough, the invitation recipients will love that even more!
ReplyDeleteWe wanted to get a stamp but we didn't think of the idea until it was too late! We just ended up buying stickers and used a nice font...we went all out with the invitations themselves so we decided to skimp on that part. But there's something about beautifully calligraphed envelopes for sure.
ReplyDeletei need to spend some serious time on etsy and snag one :)
ReplyDeletepersonally I think I like the added touch. My hand writing at best is just ok.. but I know after many many addresses Id look like a wacko wrote on my invites lol.. I say Id go the extra mile and moola for it!
ReplyDeleteI think a calligraphy stamp is worth the splurge. As is coaxing a friend with good handwriting to address your invites with wine ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't mind my handwriting but nothing beats calligraphy
ReplyDeleteI like that stamp- I had one made for all our books.
ReplyDeleteo i love the idea of stamps, so vintage and fun! xoxo jcd :: cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting a stamp like that! I think it's really sweet to get a special addressed envelope. Details will always make a big difference!
ReplyDeletei'm not the biggest fan of calligraphy, but definitely do appreciate the art! since i don't really care for pretty calligraphy, the good news is, i can pretty much save a lot of $ on that department when making invites/letters :) score!
ReplyDeleteI have HORRID handwriting, stamps are the best!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea! I have god-awful penmanship and totally need this! xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteI love stamps! Calligraphy is so beautiful, and I hadn't seen that blog before - two lovely things to swoon over!
ReplyDeleteI love stamps and paper. The calligraphy stamp adds such a classic, vintage feeling to the paper. I have been collecting stamps since I was a child. I think that if you are sending out invitations to a wedding with the right vibe, then calligraphy is such a wonderful touch. xo Samantha ps. I really enjoyed the story you shared today. Your Mom sounds like such a special lady.
ReplyDeleteOh! I want a stamp now! Loving the Emilie Friday site, thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeletePlus it is so beautiful!
i always told myself invites would be an area to save... but when you start seeing all the lovely things out there it goes right out the window!
ReplyDeleteI've been dying to get our own personalized return stamp but we are yet again moving so I have to wait on that. I can't wait to check out Erin's round up!! I too love paper and stamps, eeep! They make me so happy :)
ReplyDeleteCalligraphy can look so nice! I skipped it because it didnt match the style of our invitations.
ReplyDeletei think calligraphy is totally worth it. luckily for me my brother is an amazing calligrapher and did all our place cards for us!
ReplyDeleteYou know, darling, that I adore (and I practica) calligraphy!! These stamps are adorable..but handwriting is priceless!!

Wow, love this so much - I too have a major calligraphy weakness. I think this one's going on the wish list!

ReplyDeleteI love this so much! It's a great touch for a vintage look! Plus, I have horrific handwriting. I sorted through my old elementary school papers the other day and I realized my writing style is still the same! Same style, but just smaller font. =(
