a Ring of a Different Color

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Since Kate Middleton's oversized sapphire sparkler made its debut on her left ring finger, I think girls are at least a bit more willing to consider something other than a diamond center stone in their engagement rings. My dad did a ton of traveling to Latin America when I was a kid, and would bring home some of the most magical gems I'd ever seen. After cutting my teeth on enormous emerald cut topazes and oval citrines, I'd be delighted to wear a gemstone engagement ring!

One of my favorite designers? EidelPrecious: take a peak at her Etsy shop and tell me her delicate sapphire settings aren't an absolute dream!

  1. While that is beautiful in its own right, diamonds are still this girl's best friend.

  5. beautiful! loving the blue this week :)

i'm not usually one for colored diamonds/gems, but if i did go that route, i'd have to do a yellow diamond. they look good enough to eat!

  15. I just love the look of precious stones and think that they can be especially sentimental if passed down from a grandmother or family member. Though the same goes for diamonds, colored stones are just so striking and unique. I do love my diamond rings but I adore my colored stone rings as well and simply wear them on my right hand!

  16. WOW, I think I just fell in love with almost everything in EidelPrecious's shop. stunning stones! I would maybe have preferred a gemstone, because they are so unique, but I love my nana's diamond too :)

  29. I totally would...especially an emerald or a sapphire (my birthstone). But, I'm sure not going to turn down a diamond, either ;)

  36. so gorgeous! that gem looks like a tanzanite? i've always dreamed of an aquamarine centerstone. so amazing about your dad's travels!

  37. i love the idea but i'm wondering if i'd want my own ring to be like that....i'm still a little too traditional for that. but if i were to bend, i remember seeing this deep blue diamond or yellow diamond. ridiculously expensive but so beautiful.

  38. Ive always love my birthstone gem, aquamarine...and my sisters engagement ring is actually in that stone. They are very beautiful. Love your blog! :)

  40. I'm ALL FOR IT. Whatever suits the couple best, I say. And that ring is particularly lovely!

  41. I wanted an cushion cut sapphire but my husband, the traditionalist, went with the diamond. I love the colored stones. They are so much more traditional actually than diamonds. xo

  42. I personally would not want any gem, but I think everyone has one gemstone they are particularly fond of. In my case it happens to be sapphire, so I would not mind a sapphire ring at all, but would probably be a bit dissapointed by anything else.

So I would say there is generally at least one more gem people like besides diamonds, but not always much more than that :)

  43. You know I adore it! The ring in that photo is stunning and there are some gorgeous pieces in EidelPrecious's shop!
