Daniel and Yvonne

Sunday, March 6, 2011

When I saw this sunny yellow wedding, I nearly fell off my chair-I thought it was perfect! From the classic calligraphy by Jenna of Love, Jenna to the bride's tea length dress, bouquets bursting with daisies, ranunculus and billy balls to the buttercream frosted dreams lining the dessert table, I knew I'd laid eyes on a winner!

This pair call the Big Apple their home, but their families are from New Jersey and California, respectively. Rather than insisting one side of the family fly across the country, Daniel and Yvonne asked everyone to meet them in the middle, in New Orleans, Louisiana!

The bride wore a Melissa Sweet Reverie dress paired with a feather fascinator and birdcage veil from the East Village's Bridal Veil Falls; Stuart Weitzman kitten heels and J.Crew flats kept her feet happy during the traditional Catholic ceremony, held at the Holy Name of Jesus Church and the reception afterward. Her maid of honor wore a Priscilla of Boston dress, while her husband got gussied up in a suit by Perlis, a New Orleans favorite.

Yvonne said some of her favorite moments were the unscripted ones; a street band seranading them with "Here Comes the Bride" and a trolley-full of strangers cheering as the couple made their way to the church. I love that they walked down the aisle together, entering into their marriage as partners. After the ceremony, the newlyweds and the sixty five guests headed to the Board of Trade, a historic building where guests enjoyed a classic New Orleans reception catered by Pigeon Catering.

Cheerful arrangements of daisies, chamomile, ranunculus and billy balls by Nola-Flora graced each table, while lemons held an artfully calligraphed place card by Jenna Hein. Guests danced to bands Some Like it Hot and the Jazzmen Brass Band while enjoying a quintet of buttercream-frosted confections from baker Flour Power; their darling clothespin cake topper was made by blog darling the Small Object. And as guests headed back to their respective parts of the country, they took a bit of NOLA with them, in the form of classic pralines.
