Crimson Bubbles

Some of you already know how I feel about Campari (strong enough that I searched the state of Maryland until I found a lone, dusty bottle), but when I learned my favorite bitter liquor had a lighter, blood orange cousin, I special ordered it from our local wine shop! Baltimore's cocktail culture has grown up a lot since I moved on, so hunting down Aperol shouldn't be nearly so difficult, although this cocktail will be just as rewarding!

I don't know about you, darlings, but this has been quite a week for me. On Wednesday night, we had a pretty violent encounter with our new next door neighbor, and the cops ended up visiting their apartment three times that night. Then Thursday afternoon, the police were called once more and escorted our very unwell neighbor into an ambulance, at the request of his wife. While my Friday cocktails are often just a suggestion, I'm so looking forward to a glass of bubbly this afternoon!

Tell me-how has your week been? Any exciting (or absolutely laid-back) Valentine's Day plans?

Aperol Sparkler

1 1/2 oz of Aperol
2 oz of Prosecco
Splash of seltzer or mineral water

Pour Aperol into a champagne flute, then add Prosecco. Top with seltzer or mineral water, and garnish with an orange twist.

Notes: Feel free to substitute Prosecco for your favorite sparkler, although I would recommend erring on the sweeter side for this tart liquor!

  1. Nothing sounds better to me right now than a Friday cocktail. Though it's only 9:00 here it's been one rough week...car accident on Tuesday followed by insurance drama, ugh. Of course, none of it is my fault so I just want it to go away!! I hope things have settled down with your neighbors, a toast to a much calmer weekend!

  24. Oy, girl. It sounds like everyone had a rough week. I had to break our a bottle of wine when Friday evening came just to decompress. This cocktail looks so beautiful. And I am going to have to see if I can find Aperol around here in my town because I am thinking this would be perfect for my girls' V-day bash.
