Alexander II

Friday, December 10, 2010

The original Alexander was made with gin, but I actually prefer this classic cocktail with Armagnac, which gives it a bit more sweetness. This 1940's favorite is perfect for holiday parties, and a terrific use of the dusty bottle of brandy hiding in your liquor cabinet!

Alexander II

1 oz of brandy
1 oz of heavy cream
3/4 oz of crème de cacao

Combine brandy, cream and crème de cacao in a cocktail shaker with ice; shake for no more than 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Notes: Armagnac is a special breed of brandy produced in the region of Armagnac in Gascony, in southwestern France. It has a particular bite that serves this creamy cocktail well.

  4. this sounds good. I think a trip to the liquor store is in order. Random fact: I live in a dry city, and I have to drive 20 miles to buy liquor. Boo!
