the Jasmine

Friday, November 19, 2010

As many of you know, I can't resist the allure of Campari-although it's an orange liquor, it avoids being sticky sweet, and it always makes me feel like I'm vacationing off the coast of Italy. In a Jasmine, Campari marries with gin for a crisp, refreshing cocktail perfect for a Friday afternoon!

the Jasmine

1 1/2 oz of gin
1 oz of Cointreau
3/4 oz of Campari
1/2 oz of fresh lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for no more than 10 seconds. Strain and serve in a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes: Feel free to use any orange liquor you'd like in place of Cointreau; triple sec is much less expensive and no one can ever taste the difference.

Drinks with such vibrant liquor give you the freedom to use more floral or herbaceous gins, like Hendrick's. As always, any bottle of gin will do if you already have something on hand
(and if you're only buying one bottle of gin-buy Plymouth)!

  3. Mmf, that sounds delicious. I am usually not one for sweet drinks, but I bet the lemon juice balances out things nicely! And by nicely I mean in a whoops-I-just-drank-three-of-those kind of way.
