a Cosmo Daisy

Friday, September 17, 2010

I doubt there's a woman on Earth who hasn't tried a Cosmopolitan; Sex and the City made them a phenomenon and every bartender had the recipe memorized. But long before Carrie Bradshaw knocked 'em back in the chicest Manhattan watering holes, there was the Cosmo Daisy, a gin-based cocktail without the stigma of a "chick drink".

Cosmo Daisy

1 1/2 oz gin
3/4 oz Cointreau
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz raspberry syrup
Soda water

Combine gin, Cointreau, lime juice and raspberry syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for no more than 10 seconds. Strain in a chilled cocktail glass. Top with soda water and garnish with a lime twist.

Notes: Feel free to substitute vodka for gin if you prefer.
Raspberry syrup can be purchased at some high-end food or liquor stores (I adore Berkeley-based Small Hand Foods who supplies the best bars in San Francisco), but it can be difficult to find. The New York Times has a terrific recipe for those of you mixing these at home.

  2. Oh my, that looks so yummy! And I must admit with shame that I have actually never tried a Cosmo (blush!)
Not really a liquor kind of gal, I always end up ordering wine or a corona!

This picture might change that though, it really looks delicious :)

  3. Oh that sounds great! I think I would be terrible at making drinks, besides margaritas, micheladas and mimosas I would disappoint.

I really want to try this one (crossing fingers).

    happy weekend!

  4. You are so cocktails savvy---it kills me! This looks absolutely delish. Perhaps I'll order one next time we're out on the town! We have to have dinner with family this weekend, but I'll be in touch about something next week!
