Real Wedding: Lauren and Craig

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Lauren, now an associate art director for Martha Stewart Weddings, has only been on one first date. She and her husband Craig started dating in high school; he took her out for ice cream, where she got strawberry and he picked cherry Italian ice. When he finally proposed, Lauren lept into action. After all, she'd been reading Martha Stewart Weddings since she was a kid.

Lauren was inspired by a love of all things French and the perfect venue: Wainwright House in Rye, New York, a replica of a French château. The crafty bride made sure each detail was perfect by doing it all herself, from the guest book made of vintage envelopes (found at San Francisco gem Bell'occhio) to the homemade four berry wedding jam given as favors. She even hand-painted the French damask design featured on the letterpressed invitations, response cards and programs, printed by Soho Letterpress.

Lauren wore an ankle length Amsale gown with cherry red Kate Spade pumps, while Craig and his groomsmen dressed in classic morning suits. Bridesmaids were dressed in grass green J.Crew dresses to compliment the outdoor setting.

Hors d'oeuvres on the lawn featured the wedding's signature color and Lauren's personal touch-her favorite, strawberries with goat cheese, candied grapefruit zest and mint, were paired with Sea Breezes and pomegranate Champagne. When it was time to find their seats, guests found a beautiful escort card board covered with small envelopes, each printed with the guests' names. Inside these tiny envelopes, instructions about seating arrangements were stamped in French.

Lauren and Craig kicked up their (red) heels to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and delighted guests, then enjoyed an elegant meal at a table setting that included pots of fresh berries. Lauren added a bit of paint to her grandmother's cake topper to make it look more like herself and Craig, and it sat atop Corner Stone Caterers' damask-inspired cake.

But the evening's final event is easily my favorite touch: Lauren and Craig sent guests off with an ice cream sundae bar, featuring their favorite flavors.
